Re: Newbie with a new build thread

Thanks for the complement! I have been watching your build for some time. I love what your doing, all of it. I don't have near the skills you do. I try though. I read everything I can and try my best. Again, thanks.

I like your attitude towards your truck. All anyone can do is try there best and your doing great. I also read everything i can (even though i hate reading) and ask any question that pops in my mind. The more I know, the greater my confidence gets which reflects in everything that i do. Anyways keep up the good work and thanks for the complents!!

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

I will try and have some videos of it starting today. I have not posted videos to photobucket yet so we shall see...

I need to get working on the dash again. Been spending all my time with trying to get it running and drivable. If you look back at the first page of this thread, just being able to drive this truck is a major accomplishment. I can't wait.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

Well,,,I have no oil pressure. Anyone have any ideas. I used the primer tool and a drill to get the oil flowing and I had oil at the rockers but now that the distrubutor is in, I have no oil. The distrubutor is an msd pro billet distributor. I did notice it has an adjustable stop on it to adjust the depth it can go into the block, could this be the problem or is something else going on? any help is appriciated.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

Here is a video of my truck running. The sound is a little wierd, but it runs. I don't have the mufflers installed yet. Just about 4' pipe off the headers.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

I have oil pressure now. It was the distributor collar. I moved it up about 1/4" and all is good. Pressure reads good and I have oil. The video above is it running with oil. I just need to finish up with antifreeze, wiring for the electric fans, and the brakes and I will be able to go around the block with it.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

It will happen. I can't believe I have done as much as I have. I am so ready to drive this thing. We have a lot of local car shows here and I can't wait to drive it to some.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

A little work done today. I bent me up some lines from the proportioning valve to the main lines. All lines are done now except the braided steel ones to the calipers. All I need is a bango bolt. I am not sure the fittings the lines came with are the correct ones though. They don't seem to fit any way you hold them up to the caliper. I have a straight fitting where I think I may need a 45 degree one. I will post some pics later and get your guys input on the situation.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

Here are the lines. I should have taken my time on them. They don't look all that great.

Also, here is the top mounts I made for the fans.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

I have just decided to go to my local parts store and pick up some stock lines for now. They had them ordered for me, but the driverside one did not come in and now they are having to look for it. The passenger side line is now installed. One brake line and I can drive it around the block for the first time ever. Look back at the first picture and you'll see that this thing came out of a field with no suspension. I have a ton of work left to do but I have just been spending all my time lately getting it to a drivable state. The electric fans are also now wired. Thought I had a bad relay for a while, but turned out to be a bad connection. They are wired to the ignition to always run when the truck is running for the moment, but I will add a switch in the line when I get a chance.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

I put some stock brake lines on for now, maybee forever, and have buttoned up enough stuff to drive it around the yard for the first time since Bringing it home. I picked up a straight hood and a steering wheel from a 1961 impala to sorta match the dash. At least it will when all is in paint.

Here are some pictures of it outside under its own power for the first time.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

Now that the truck is running for the most part, I picked up some 20 Ga steel to finish up the dash. Since I was laid off, I have a little time to work on it now. I'll post up some pictures when I get a chance.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

Got a little work done, well a patch panel made anyways. I may get around to welding it in tomorrow. Not having a job is getting a little old real fast. I should be using all this time off to finish my truck up. Theres a ton I could do. I have some pictures of the truck with the bed on and I will post them later.

Later.

Thanks. I like the patina look, but the bed is all I have of that truck. Its pretty rough. There is a lot of work ahead of me on it. The stance is probably my favorite thing about this truck so far. I still do not have any springs in the rear though. I am going to bag it though so the stance will remain the same. Thanks for looking.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

I need some thoughts on how I should finish my dash out. I can take it straight to the door and just end it or use the wrap around part. I am not sure the wrap around part is going to look good.

Here is a shot of the passenger side door. I have to smooth out the latch area thats not being used.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

I'm just not feeling the wrap around part. I think I would bring it straight out myself.
