Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
I have a question:
If you use the 69 big block motor mounts, will the rest of the running gear(trans(automatic) and drive shaft) stay in the stock location? |

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
If it is already a V8 truck, yes. If it is a cylinder truck (like mine was) the tranny crossmember will have to come forward and the front driveshaft would have to be from a V8 truck. The big block frame mounts bolt in the same location as the SBC mounts, but sit the engine about an inch or so higher.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
I think he meant 6-cylinder truck. They have the tranny/clutch housing mounts back further that the V8 trucks do.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
Is the motor sitting in its final resting spot? If it is, did the front end sag at all from the additional weight from the diesel to the 6 cylinder? When I had the 6.2L in place of the chevy 350, the front drop about 1.5-2.5 inches... What springs do you plan on running?
thanks, David |

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
I raised the front of mine with some 3" lift springs, and I am running some taller tires on the front. I went from a 9" "red neck" rake to about 4" of rake rear to front. If I keep it she will get a 4TB.

Look at that! Good job. This is a 6.2 with the turbo parts from a 6.5L, right? Keep up the good work.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
Yes, it is '86 J code 6.2L from a military CUCV with '93 6.5TD parts on it.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
Are you going to run the 86 drive assy, or are you going to upgrade to the 89 serpentine system? Thanks for the pics.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
For time being I'm going to run the V belts just for the fan and alternator. The military set-up is different that civilian, and I'm going to run dual belts on the alternator. I have a serpentine set-up from a '97 6.5TD that I'm going to put on it when I put on the A/C and the hydroboost setup.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
I started building my exhaust this evening. I am going to run a 4" mandrel bent custom system from the turbo back with the Warpspeed straight- through design muffler. The factory exhaust housing on the rear of the turbo is restrictive and causes a lot of back pressure on these GM-X series turbos. The inside of the casting measures a touch under 2.600" at the outlet and is more restricted than the where the 90 degree bend is. I decided to build a custom system that will be 4" from the turbine housing back. I machined the flange at work on the CNC, and I'm building the pipe from pre-bent 90 and 45 degree pipes that I will have to cut and butt-weld to the straight lengths. I am going to run outside of the frame rail due the position of the turbo and the narrower frame on these year trucks vs the newer ones that the 6.5TD were designed for. I'm planning on turning it out right before the rear wheels on the passenger side. Here's a few mock-up shots.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
Yes, I was actually about to post this. I finished up the down pipe today. I FINALLY got the pipe fitted and welded top the flange. It took quite a bit of persuasion to make it fit all the way around due to odd shape of rear exit of the turbo. The opening is bigger than the factory opening so there is no overhang. The ended up being a little over 4.5" at it widest point and around 3.5" at its smallest. It is still WAY bigger than the inside of the cast. The last shot shows how wide open the exit is. It makes a nice smooth transistion down for a 90 degree turn. The rest of the exhaust should be pretty straight forward.
