Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
I gotta tell you that is one sweet looking truck you have built. This is what I love most about what I do for a living!
I really like the blue interior paint with the outside white. Man, I have to admit I am a bit jealous... Don

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
I just looked at your build thread as it was used for an example of the side mount spare tire in another post. I noticed that you are missing the top bracket for the spare tire bracket. It mounts to the top of the bedside and behind the triangle pice on the top. I didn't read the entire 200 post thread so I don't know if its been mentioned yet. Just thought I would warn you before the weight of the tire breaks the rest of the bracket.

Can't remember, is that the one you are doing with your dad?
Really nice. Is that "black cherry" and white pearl? Any more details to share, or do you have a build thread for it? MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lee

P.S.
Maybe we should start a contest on who has the most "active" projects in progress. I thought we were bad.

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Merry christmas !!!! to everyone . The "maroon" is a Jaguar color It is very much like a black cherry or brandy wine color . The white is the mother of pearl color off the new escalades . The story of this truck is that i bought the truck from my uncle in the late 70's from grass cutting money and me and my dad got it running with new brakes and king pins . My dad was going to surprise me and have it painted on summer when i was away at a camp . He paid a guy $1500 down on a $3000 paint job . The guy disassembled the truck and left town . I was lucky enough that i found the truck after only 2 days searching . I hauled the parts back to my dads house and we shoved them in the garage . I bought a 65' Mustang to drive and the truck sat for 15 years . This is 5 years worth of work to this point . I have paper work on this truck being in the family since 1958 . Vortec 350 , 350 long shaft , 2.73 10 bolt 8.5 posi , serpintine belt drive , A/C & heat with defrost , Power windows and locks , tilt . Power steering and brakes , Mustang II front end , walnut bed . More of a show truck then a driver . I love cars and trucks . Im also looking at an 70' Mark Donohue Javilin with 14,000 original miles .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Well it's been a while so i thought i'd update . The Maroon color on the 49 is dupont 302 .
I have gotten a little farther on the 67' when i am not driving it . I got the exhaust run back to the axle , set the timing , installed a coolent reservor , hooked up the kick down cable , installed a new speedo cable , and have been adjusting the carb . I also have an intermittent trans leak that i need to find . I bought a posi unit , but have not installed it as im looking into the possibility of going 5 lug . I am still collecting parts for the serpintine conversion and A/c install . The paint has some bleed through in it when it's in the sun and the painter said he has to repaint the whole truck to get it right . I am dreading taking the truck back apart for a repaint as i have alot going on right now . Anyway here are some pics .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
What happened on the javelin? Didn't the MD have the huge rear spoiler. Very Rare.
On the bleed thru. Is it to where some pin stripping or a set of racing stripes would cover it? Or maybe scuff and shoot some clear with blue pearl over it??? Just throwing out ideas that might keep from having do go thru the whole process again. Hang in there. Lee

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Quote:
The bleed through is in big splotches almost like there was not enough base coat put down . I guess im gonna have to strip it back down and do it again . I'll put a serious detune on it before it goes . Im also gonna get with mike down in webster and get the aluminum trim rings and head light trim . Even thinking about a none spare fender for the bed . I had a pair of 1.5" rear lowering blocks made for it to set it level also . Starting friday im off for 6 days , so i'll be looking for a sway bar as my wife says it leans to much in the corners . It is alot of fun to drive and im really enjoying it so far . The cam doesn't make quite enough vacuum for the power brakes so im thinking about a cam swap to something more wife friendly . She has been hinting about taking it to the little car show at the mall this weekend ( nothing big just a every saturday 6 to 8 type deal ) . I'll try and get some better pics .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Got a little bit more done this weekend . The truck had a pulsation when stopping so i turned the rotors , installled new pads , and repacked the whell bearings .
While i was at it i put these in . It handles a ton better going tommorow to pick up the sway bar off a suburban for the front . I was test driving it and the water pump bearings went out .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
I haven't updated in a while and just thought i should . The 288 cam was just to big . The motor was not making enough vacuum for the brakes and it was just getting annoying driving it with the big cam . It also was not happy on cheaper pump gas , so i am doing a little "de-tune" . I pulled the heads and cam and installed a XM270HR . This cam is on 114 and still has .503 lift . It will be in between a ZZ4 and the LT-4 hot cam . The old heads were 210 CC intake runners which are on the big side for a 350 . They also had 62 cc chambers which put compression at 10.5 to 1 , not very pump gas friendly . I got a smoking deal on a set of Dart 200's . These are 200 cc intake runners with 64 cc chambers & 2.02 valves . The compression should be 9.7 to 1 with these which is still pushing it , but for $500 brand new in the boxes i couldn't pass them up . Im hoping to have it close to back together by tommorow night . Also looking for some cool valve covers to go with the air cleaner . I'll post up some pics of the finished motor as soon as i get it done .
