Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress
Thanks! Teaching is definately taking away any extra time that I have. Even though school ends at 2:30, I never get out any earlier than 5:00. I go home, make dinner, feed the family, put my little boy to bed, and then spend another 3 hours each evening planning, making power points, and grading papers. One of my weekend days is purely devoted to school (8hrs or so) and the other day is left to tackle to house work and shopping for the week. Time is definitely limited. Not to mention that my wife and I are expecting another one in about 7 months...it's not going to get any better for a while. So, the abriged version is that all I have time for right now is buying, not building. But I will try to fit some time in before winter hits full on.

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress
Thank you. Nope, the work aspect of this resto is on the back burner...just buying more NOS parts as I run across them. Not many left that I could use. Work and family has been getting my attention lately. I too like the Longhorn. It was an aquired taste, but now I can't imagine not having one.

I totally understand that for sure. You will have a super truck by the looks of it for sure when it is done though. Family is always first. Take care. Critterman71

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress
I finally sat down and read your build thread. Your truck is going to be amazing when it is all said and done. It will have the sweetest collection of NOS parts I have ever seen. Keep up the good work and make sure you keep us posted.

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress
Will there be a single non-factory part on the truck when completed?

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress
I'm sure you can find a super nice original headliner...I had one a while back. I know Cheyenne super man had some factory bucket covers at one point but I think he said he'd used them all at this point. Would be quite a find to get all that NOS!

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress
Yes, the headliner can be found in near perfect shape. I'll hit up Cheyenne Super man when he comes out to the swap meet near me in January. You never know. Now as far as NOS goes, I may need to do some financing to get all of those items NOS

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress
Wow, what an amazing project. I'm currently in the process of restoring a 72 k-10 longbed. It's going to be my daily driver when finished. I was interested in what brand of metal etching primer and gun your using? I myself am getting very close to priming and have sanded down my whole truck to just about bare metal. I see no reason to invent the wheel on the whole prime/etching issue. With all you've done, it seems to make sense to do what you've done. Keep up the great work!!

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress
That's a cool score on the filter. Is that going to be shelf art, or do you plan on using it?

I'll keep it on the shelf until the first show I enter the truck into. I'll make sure that I get a replacement filter before then.

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress
Are you planning on using the Dupli Color Paint Shop system for the paint? Seems expensive using spray cans to prime the whole truck, easy, but pricey..

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress
No, first I'll seal it with a two-part polyester high build primer. Then I will be using DuPont Nason single stage enamel paint. I only used the Dupli-Color metal etch because I did not have to mix any certain quanity to work small areas.

Gocha. That makes sense. I like to pick brains when I'm at the same stage of my project. Can't wait to see it painted. Thanks for all the work you've put into the thread, it really is a big help to all of us who are in the restoration process....

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress
Ok, I got the correct expansion valve. The last one I purchased was not correct...it was missing the bottom tube. This one was a bit pricier, but it has to be correct

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress
Thanks, Buddy! You know, buying parts is about all I have time for lately. And with a newborn coming our way in May, well, this darn truck may be all NOS by the time I'm done with it.
