Re: Lucy - My 1968 SWB

Got a power steering gear off a 86 GMC at State Line auto parts. It has the o ring type fittings so I'll get some new lines. Came with the pitman arm and rag joint. $75.

Had to clearance a little bit of my drivers side rad mount to fit it in there. Also had to add some washers between it and the frame too because it was hitting the frame.

Re: Lucy - My 1968 SWB

That's sitting on the bumpstops. (Dr. Pepper can for reference. )

Took me quite a while to get the steering gear and steering right. Had to call Woody (Woodridge). I had the center link on backwards. Oops. Got it done though and put the cowl on. Should be pulling it home tomorrow.

Truck sure is coming along, gotta love the look of the big tires and slammed down body, just plain sinister, soon it will be running!

Re: Lucy - My 1968 SWB

Thanks man. Been working non stop for a couple months so I am gonna take a week or two off once it gets home. I might piddle with it, but I have not spent enough time with my wife and kids this summer because of the deadline to get it out of the garage.

Been following your "Havoc" build. What a burnout. Talk about "getting a little sideways".

Re: Lucy - My 1968 SWB

Well, I made it halfway home tonight with the truck. Went and got some guys that work for my Dad to help me put the bed on it and I had to swing back by my Dad's to drop them off. He had the turnaround blocked with his truck so I had to back up and turnaround. Put one of the guys in the truck to turn the wheel while I backed up and everything went fine. When I went to pull off the towbar ripped the front of my frame where the towbar bolts to it. Didn't hurt the towbar but I got some welding to do on my frame. I had to leave my truck at my Dads. Sucks!

Yeah, that's as high as it will go. I aired it all the way up to pull it home because my work truck sets high and my drop hitch doesn't drop alot.

This is after I welded it back up to get it home. The holes for the front bumper don't line up anymore.

Got this in the mail from BamaBaxter today (Thanks Christopher).

Need to figure out the wiring on it and get the airline feeding into this tank. Just gonna cut the tank(s) off and mount them to the frame of my truck.

Re: Lucy - My 1968 SWB

that's cool i have a tank from a 1.5 gallon compressor. try to keep that copper pipe with the cooling fins. it will help cool the air when it goes from the compressor to the tank.

I have always heard any year between 73-87. I tried to get a power steering box off the latest model that they had there. I don't know if the later models have the quick ratio steering boxes or not, but that was my rationale.

Notice that I had to cut a little out of my drivers side rad mount to make the box I got work. Not sure if there are other years that would have fit better or not. All in all it was a very easy modification though - not much metal to remove.

Re: Lucy - My 1968 SWB

Picked these up today. Never bolted up to anything. $60. They are quite a bit shorter than the one's I had, so the exhaust won't hang below the frame now.

Hey Trai, let us know how those will work out for you, I might end up needing a set of those. Lucy keeps looking better every time I look @ her!

Thanks man. Not a lot of major stuff is being done these days. I am buying a few things here and there. There are a lot of little things left to do and not much work has been done since I brought her home from the garage. Hopefully I can get her running again in the next month or so then I will be able to take her back to the garage and actually get everything buttoned up.

those look almost like the headman G body headers i have on my 77. shorties so they don't hang below the frame.
