I thought about doing that at one time. I almost bought a red carpet that was in very good shape, but I rolled it out and it ended up being for a 4X4. Had a hole cut out for the t-case shifter. I ended up buying a couple rolls of black 'automotive' carpet that they sell at Walmart. It's actually holding up pretty good.

I got a nice and free carpet that will fit my truck but it is blue, and the '80's interior is red....so I need to dye it

Re: 1973 Cheyenne Super 10

It's been awhile since I posted anything...

I got my windows tinted. Also, I've recently scored a good deal on a low mileage 400. I'll be dropping that in to replace the oil burning 350. Soon.

Re: 1973 Cheyenne Super 10

Once again...no pics, just a story.

The oil burnin' 350 is out and the 400 is in. My bro-in-law (Fred) is an on call mailman so he don't get much of a chance to twist wrenches anymore like he used to. Anyhow, Monday was a holiday, he was off, so we (he) came up with a last minute plan to do a double engine R-n-R...

Here's the story...

The 400: It originally came out the 1977 GMC motorhome that had about 60,000 miles. Compression is awesome, no leaks, no smoke. Great running engine. Fred's dad dropped this motor into a '80 Chevy LWB with a four speed. Truck ran great, but he didn't use the proper, balanced flywheel. He smoked the clutch. He decided to sell me the motor and Fred the truck.

Fred's going to use the '80 as his "trash/work" truck. I told him, if he helps me do the swap, he can have my 350. Therefore, this past weekend I got the call..."Let's do it".

Monday morning came. We pulled out both motors, swapped parts and dropped them both back in. In a perfect world, we would've completed both trucks by the evening. I don't know where that world is, but it is nowhere near Santa Fe, NM. A bunch of little miscellaneaous things kept holding us back. (missing nuts, bolts, bushings) Fred had his truck running by about 10pm. Because of a header that would not line up, mine didn't get fired up until almost midnight. I went back on Tuesday to finish buttoning up the process. I installed all belts, brackets, fluids, etc. so I could run and tune it. Shortly after the engine got up to temp, in notice some white smoke and the smell of antifreeze. I shut her down and we began inspection. I installed an Edelbrock Performer intake and it turns out the intake gaskets didn't seal correctly. I had to take a bunch of steps back to put in new gaskets. After re-doing everything that I did that morning/afternoon, I got the truck fired back up at about 8pm last night. The whole time I was worried that the problem was more than the intake gaskets. It wasn't.. the gaskets solved the problem. She's alive...after the 'heart' transplant. She's still at the shop... the underhood wiring is getting cleaned up. I'll post post pics and give a performance report later...

JC

I'm not sure of the exact backspacing. I think they are a little deeper dish than normal. They are all 15x8. Rear tires are 295\50r15 and the fronts are 245\60r15.

Re: 1973 Cheyenne Super 10

Here's some pics of the 400. She's running good. I've been driving her to work daily for the last couple of weeks. I'm still trying to chase an exhaust leak...

I also had the secondaries disabled on the qjet when I was running the 350. Because of wear, the secondaries weren't closing, so my bro-in-law cut the linkage and locked them closed. I had some extra carbs in the garage so I found on with not much wear so I swapped out the bottoms and now I have a working 4-barrel again. I had to see what the 400 would do... and it does awesome... I'll be needing new rear tires soon.

Here's the pics:
