Re: My 76
Yeah, one of my dad's friends said that if I sand it down with some 1000 grit and clear it, it will really shine. But mainly I just want to smooth it out some. There is some dust and stuff and its kinda rough up close. If I cant clear over it, then Ill make sure its sanded before I paint the other side tomorrow, and Ill just spray another coat over it.

Re: My 76
The problem is that you'll mess up the metallics if you sand it. If you want the ability to sand and polish to take care of any flaws, you would have to clear over the color after about an hour or two, but not longer than 24 hours or so.
With single stage metallics, you get what you get unless you spray a coat or two of clear over it right away. I think that Nason calls for their 486-00 clear over acrylic enamel.

Re: My 76
So what if I just wet sand it smooth and shoot another coat of paint over it tomorrow? Would that work, or do I just need to be happy as is?

Re: My 76
Yeah, you can do that.
You should lay two medium coats, waiting until you can lightly run the back of your finger over the first coat (about 20 minutes). This will give your second coat a good foundation, to minimize sagging and/or runs. Then follow up with a lighter coat, holding the gun farther away and kinda cross spraying, if you know what I mean.

Re: My 76
Good luck, will be watching for updates tomorrow
Also, would be good to spray more parts at a time, to save materials (if you've got the room to do so). You can also put any left over activated paint in the freezer to keep it from setting up and be able to use it the next day or so. Not the ideal situation but, OK for the door jambs, etc.

Re: My 76
Alright, but the only thing I got left to spray blue is the other side door jam. The rest of the truck will be painted at another friend of my dad's paint shop. He has a profesional autobody shop and he told me if I needed help with anything, he will help. He will be the one to spray it, put the doors together, and put the windows in it for me. All I got to do is get it ready for him. He is also the same guy that gave me the doors for this truck.
And I got a question, when waiting between coats, do I just leave the gun as be? Or do I need to clean it out and stuff?

And, like I said above, like if you gotta stop what you're doing for lunch or something, just put the loaded gun in the freezer, it'll slow the cure time and increase your pot life.

Re: My 76
I got the cab primed, but my gun clogged up on me so I got it soaking in acetone right now. Thats about all truck related today. I did help one of my friends move out, and he gave me at least $600 worth of cloths plus some other cool stuff as well. No pics tonight, will get some in the morning.

Re: My 76
Got an up-date finally. I had to spend 3 hours cleaning my 2 guns. There was primer caked in them both. But I did finally get the passenger side painted.
And can anyone tell me if this is enough to finish painting the outside of my truck? And here is the mags my friend gave me yesterday. 6 years worth of sport truck and many more lol.

Re: My 76
Nah, my dads got a professional body man as a good friend, he is gonna paint the truck for me at his shop. Soon as I get the body work done, I give him a call, he sends roll back, and off goes my truck.
