Re: Silver Dollar
Hey man, don't beat up on yourself too bad. These things happen. I see pros break glass every now and then too. Atleast these windshields are cheap. I watched a couple of pro glass guys break 4 windshields on a 55 IH big truck. Man those guys were sick! Keep up the great work. Your gauges and PCM turned out great!

Re: Silver Dollar
Great work on the whole truck. Everyone screws up once in a while when they do things themselves. At least it wasn't too expensive a screwup. And thanks for the power steering hose tip. Works good. Its a little tight with my engine set back so far, but its working for now. Can you move your center two bumper brackets out to take the bow out? Sorry had to bring that up now. Good luck.

Re: Silver Dollar
While im waiting on the new windshield, ill post some pics of the side glass install
all the glass came from Car parts direct. except windshield. old glass after bead blasting old vent glass how it should come out how it should not come out I used black silicon to seal them in. its not the best choice. I wouldn't recommend it. its messy and don't look quite right. new window knob |

Re: Silver Dollar
Very nice! Did you just use a razor blade to trim the silicone after it dried on the vent window?

First I have to say, your avatar freaks me out! Im not sure about cruising, there's 5-6 inches of snow up here right now started a few days ago. I hope to have everything done real soon. and my first drive will be to the alignment shop and get some exhaust on it. Last edited by mrhino; 12-08-2010 at 11:02 AM. |

Re: Silver Dollar
I looked at Rustoleum,Duplicolor, and herculiner Bedliners. each had there good points and bad. I ended up choosing rustolem over the other two. because it looke like it was the simplest to repair, and the most cost effective. Its probably not as durable as the hurculiner, but its mainly for looks, more than likly it wont be out in the weather, and the only thing that it should be hauling is ass.
first I started by cleaning all the parts and left over crap out of the bed. then used the vacuum to get all the small stuff. rustolleum sells a kit, that comes with a scuff pad, roller and a small tray for $15. forget that. went two isles over at walmart and got a $3 roller and cut it in half to fit one of my wifes house paint rollers, a $0.46 plastic paint tray liner, and a scuff pad left over from the body work. what a racket they got going. any way, taped off the edges, and rolled the first coat of bed liner. looked kinda blotchy at first, but by the second coat started to look pretty good. Put a total of 4 coats on. it was kinda stinky so I wore my respirator. then I did the tailgate. rolled the liner over the edge of the tailgate. Finished product. |

Re: Silver Dollar
It goes on real easy and looks good. I dont think it would be very good in a work truck or a bed that sees a lot of heavy hauling. it's not very thick or tuff. but if your using it like I did, just for appearances or light hauling such as grocery's, lawn chairs for a car show, or things of that nature. It would be fine.

Re: Silver Dollar
If you have been following this build, you can see a pattern. I like to do things a little different. use items that were necessarily made for our trucks, but work non the less. some turn out for the better and maybe some don't. but hey! you never know till you try. when it came time to do the interior it was no different. Most people use Dynamat or fatmat, or lizard skin. 67C10BuB did a awesome job on his truck with thermo tech from summit. Here is his build thread if you haven't seen it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=421326&page=7
Because Im Thrifty, and enjoy finding alternative ways of doing things. But mostly because Im Thrifty. I googled "Homemade lizard skin". I found many people, that have done different variations to making homemade Lizard skin which if you dont know is a sound damping and insulation product. but the one thing that is consistent is the use of "micro-spheres" that is what the main ingredient is in most liquid insulating products, including Lizard skin. Micro sphere are inexpensive. So I bought some and mixed it with a product called KoolSeal if you google Kool seal you can find out more about the product, and how a lot of hotrodders are using it. I mixed the the two products and just used a paint brush and a roller. and did the whole floor and inside the doors and the back of the cab. it was the consisitance of thick latex paint or slightly runny peanut butter. I put a total of four coats on. when that dried I used Foil backed bubble wrap, with spray glue. and taped the seams with foil tape. Because the carpet I got doesn't go very far up the firewall like it should. I added some black carpet matteral, cut to fit just past where the stock carpet dosent reach. I got it from menards, it looks just like automotive carpet from the 80's and 90's it doesnt quit match the looped pile design of our factory carpet but it pretty close and it is up under the dash so its not real noticeable and behind the seat where the fuel tank use to be. the bolts where temerarly. I held it up with black plastic push in pins or ("christmas trees") Then just laid the new carpet in on top. the jury is still out on how well the homemade insulation works but I can tell a diffrence in the vibration the cab use to give off. and the doors seam a lot more soild, or less tinny or hollow sounding. |
