Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
I am still slowly working on the stereo system, I got some progress photos though...
- The front door lower midrange pod/panels are being wrapped and finished now along with the rear lower door panels - The sub box behind the rear seat is done - The amp rack/driver's rear speaker panel is done and I am working on the passenger rear speaker panel now.

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
Got the front sway bar end links melted together today, I've had these designed for months and finally got a minute to get them done...
The rear audio panels are at the upholsterer with the door panels. The rendering's line drawings are done and getting color now... Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
Your truck looks great, and i love the idea of the door pods and your behind the seat set up. Cant wait to see more, i have been thinking along the same lines for my system. But i may do my pods on the upper door panel where your pockets are, but after seeing yours i may have changed my mind. Killer Truck

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
Since advanced composites is my business, I thought about using my pods as a plug to make these on a production level but I honestly don't know if I am up for the responsibility right now, work is just too damn busy and military and international governments don't take kindly to side projects getting in the way...

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
the rear sub and amp rack looks killer, and i like the speaker pods for the lower doors, was wondering what type of/how thick, you used to build them, im guessing its something not to heavy, im wanting to make a pair for my doors

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
I started with a 1/4" MDF panel, bought some pre-made CNC speaker rings and laid up the felt with resin and then 2 layers of 3oz fiberglass cloth. Groud that smooth with 80-grit and then sealed it with fiberglass putty. Then 3 applications of fiberglass filler sanding smooth between each application.
Now it's off at the upholsterer... Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
See if you trim those front u-bolts down.
Also, I like your sway bar disconnects, but you still might have to lower the FRONT part of the sway bar to get it more level. It's hard to tell how level it is from the photos. |

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
I haven't cut down any of the u-bolts because I figured I might have problems with the threads in the top plates when I got the sway bar end links done. The passenger side went fine, but the last 1/4" of threads in the driver side marred up a new grade 8 bolt so I have to pull it apart and replace the driver side top plate (still need to find one) and after everything is done, I'll cut everything down!
As for the level of the bar, it's fine...I know what I am doing on suspension set-up (watched a youtube video once) and I got the bar right. Lowering the front of the bar is the ghetto way of getting it level, if you look at my end links, you'll see they are adjustable so if I have to adjust it, I can thread the rode end out to raise the rear up (same as lowering the front). These are not disconnects, however...just adjustable end links. I don't need disconnects since this is a tow rig/mall crawler. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
man! supersweet build.
your rims are sick... two questions: - what LED's did you use in the turn signals behind the grille? - what LED's did you use in the sidemarkers? got any pics of them? or a link?

got a another question. Why did you go with 1157 bulbs for the front grill turnsignals and for a complete board for the rear light/brake/turnsignals?

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
I didn't want to do a custom board and all that...I wanted a drop-in replacement to use with LMC's custom housings...I like the look of it!

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
LEDs have come a long way in recent time, wide viewing angle, they fill the lenses out perfectly and they are bright as hell...my dad has the same lights in the rear of his truck (Christmas presents from me), he got pulled over once because an NHP trooper thought my dad's brake lights were stuck on...until he lit my dad up and my dad actually hit the brakes and blinded the trooper...the trooper apologized and sent him on his way...
