Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

Also got the engine running on the frame complete with the electric fans and radiator and belt. Took some videos but they turned out like crap. Seems to be running pretty good and idles well. I got the headers used and whoever had them must have painted them with some rattle can primer or worse cuz its burning off at a record pace. Nothing hits even with full throttle stabs from idle but its a tight fit. Hope that the coating that I am using will help shield some of the heat from the paint. When the fans kick on they pull an enormous amount of air. Succeeded in burning through oil pressure sensor "hose" and its amazing how even a tiny pinhole can cause a big puddle of oil in no time. Having a problem with the belt trying to ride back onto air conditioner delete pulley. Will post pics tomorrow of that. Also cannot figure out why the carb is leaking fuel into the engine. Its going through the downspouts and dripping in. I have the fuel line (from electric pump) deadheaded into the regulator with a hose coming out of both side of the regulator going to each bowl independently. The secondary bowl is working just fine but the primary is leaking. Am I doing something wrong with my regulator? Took the bowl off and the float is adjusted correctly and is not stuck.

Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

Here is the problem I am having with the belt. I got the brackets all on correctly and have this AC compressor delete that I got at a salvage yard. Every time the engine runs it moves the belt over towards back of pulley though until belt jumps a groove and starts rubbing on bolt as well as bracket. Any ideas whats wrong?

Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

At some point in the past I had ground off the tab that holds the brake line to the rearend housing so had to make my own new ones. Never liked having just one tab so made two for each side and welded them on. Hopefully these are at a good spot. Then I have Made4You T clamps like I used on the frame brake lines to fasten to these tabs so the line will touch painted surface nowhere.

Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

Nice work on the rearend, I noticed my existing (non original) rearend has the tabs for the brake lines but the axle donor 72 rear did not. strange.. It has one per side but two would be much better as you did. Also one rear end had the tab for the hose from the frame and the other does not.
Is your pulley in alignment? I would say maybe put a washer between the AC bypass pulley to move it back a hair if that does not pull it in too close to the bolt but then you may have to shave the back of the bypass to fit in the bracket, idk Maybe try a new bypass pulley?

Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

Got the engine running better and did some tuning on it. Here are some videos. The smoke on the videos is from the cheap paint burning off of the headers. I will be coating them with something much superior when I repaint the engine. More videos to follow. This is running it through open headers obviously inside a closed shop. Sorry for the mess everywhere.

Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

Dan, I was going to do what you suggested and then anothe gentleman on here suggested trying to put a straight edge on my pulleys and seeing how they lined up first. Sure enough my idler pulley was way out of line. Removed it entirely (as Kwik Performance said you could do this if you wish) and fixed my problem! Runs straight and true now

Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

Yea that's because I had earlier shocked the bejesus out of myself from the ignition and was guarding against that. Plus I have this fear about a backfire lighting my hand on fire and that's the hand I reach over the carb with lol. Fans make a Ton Of noise!!

Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

Got a few more parts in the mail. I sold my factory Posi to blasher (great guy btw) up in Anchorage and got this new from Eaton becaue I got a smoking deal on it. Here is the comparison of the two as well as the instructions for it. Got the Aeromotive fuel pressure gauge as it is not liquid filled and therefore more accurate in under hood applications. Got temperature switches to turn on my fans independently also. Plus a few stainless knickknacks and carb gaskets.

Not sure about the comment on air flow being restricted due to the webbing on the backside of the fan.
Don't see how that'd matter.

Since your fans aren't attempting to cool your engine, it'll probably be fine to cool the radiator (even that close to the engine).

Man that Big Block sounds great, are you going to put some quality mufflers on it that will retain the rich deep sound but quiet it just a touch?

Where'd you go? Been waiting for some updates on your Eaton swap. I was hoping for a little how-to maybe? That engine sounds awesome btw.

Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

Sorry I disappeared for a while folks. Got caught up in life and truck suffered. Got engine all centered correctly and tuned where I like it. Have to buy some new ball joints and tie rods so can finish the front suspension all up. Still trying to figure out what to coat my aluminum heads with. As far as mufflers I already have 2 three inch stainless Flowmaster Super 44s. In my absence I DID however get another factory original paint door for the driver side. It may be the most rust free door I have ever seen too so I am super excited about that. I will be attempting to sell my Goodmark doors that are totally shaved along with all the Electric Life shaved door handle kit as well as the Brother's one piece windows kit. I am going in a little different direction and decided that I want to have door handles and mirrors on this truck. Plus will avoid all the hassle of dealing with the shaved door handles. Still want one piece windows though.

Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

The rearend rebuild is a hump that I will be glad to get over. Have not been able to procure a good guide for how to do it and don't want to pay 250 dollars to get it done though. If I find one I will DEFINITELY post a step by step example of how I did it along with pictures. I DO know that I am going to put either Dutchman or Moser axles in it.

Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

Pictures of the driver side door that I got at Pate Swap Meet in Ft Worth. Ok so it is not 100 percent rust free but this is all original paint and this is expected surface rust that in no way interferes with the integrity of the door. It will be gently media blasted away and I have a few tricks that I am going to try to be sure that it never rears its ugly head again. Door came with a regulator, window, door handle, lock and all attached mechanisms. There is literally not a dent anywhere on this door. No speaker hole either. Only the few small ones where the big mirrors bolted on.

Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

Decided to do some things that did not cost a lot of money as I got momentarily tired of dumping tons of money into the frame and I wanted a break from the wallet abuse. Decided to work on the cab that I got in Phoenix. Hope you all do not get bored with all the pictures because I have a ton of them. This cab was from a camper so it had shag carpet and all sorts of filler panels in it so I stripped the cab down and took a bunch of pictures. If anyone want to know why you buy a cab in the West this is why.Factory rockers and even still has some of the factory weatherstripping still attached. Cab must have been built on a Monday with someone hung over sealing the rocker though...

More cab pictures.. Cab already has a high hump in it which is nice. Since this was a 1 ton RV it had saddle tanks and that is what the switch is for. Anyone want a switch?

Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

Every rose has its thorn we know and this is no different. First problem is that when the former owner took the windshield out they messed up the flange on the lower drivers side a bit. Shouldn't be a problem to fix though. The only rust I could find on the entire cab that is anything besides expected surface rust are these two small holes here, do not know if these rusted through or were some sort of drain holes. The third problem is that since this was a 1 ton it has clearance lights!!! This obviously would look absurd on a 2 wheel drive so will have to scalp the roof skin off and put a plain one up there instead. Fourth problem is that there is a hole big enough for a person to fit through in back of the cab, literally.

Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

The solution: Cut the back out of my old silver cab and graft into new cab. So after measuring and remeasuring and remeasuring and remeasuring approx 17 times started making templates. Cardboard was first one and then made better posterboard one. As you can see the silver cab was sandblasted 100% and I will never do that again. Even after body work still shows the warping on back of cab big time. Luckily the part that will be seen is not warped.

Re: Attempt/Mistake #2

I used a Horrible Freight air body saw that cost 12 dollars but run Morse American made blades in it and it cut the panel out as if it were butter. There were some distorted screw holes beside the panel so while was at it used my new Martin body tools and all I can say is WOW even I can tell that they are vastly superior to the old Chinese made O'reilly specials that I used to have You only cry once!
