Re: The Egg Hauler.... not much of a build
My dad just sent me a text and said he picked up a 5.3 to put in the Egg Hauler. Yeaaaaaa
My uncle has done quite a few swaps now and talked him into it. Probably will take a while piecing it together and getting it all figured out. Should be a nice driver when he gets it done though. |

Re: The Egg Hauler.... not much of a build
The 5.3 ended up being a 4.8, but my dad went ahead with it anyway. I think he got it for pretty solid deal.
Looking to switch to an automatic trans. Is it possible to use an automatic column shifter from one of these trucks, or is an aftermarket floor shifter mandatory? |

Re: The Egg Hauler.... not much of a build
Awesome! 4.8s are good little motors. They aren't that much lower in numbers compared to a 5.3. I had an 02 Silverado 4x4 with a 4.8 and it scooted right along, my 66 will get a 4.8 eventually .

I like the 292 in your truck right now, but 4.8 will be equally awesome! |

Re: The Egg Hauler.... not much of a build
My dad wanted to get the 66 driving so he opted to pull the 350 from his 72 work truck and is going to put the 4.8 back into that. My mom went to visit my sister for the week last week to help out with their new baby so he had plenty of time in the evenings to get it buttoned back up and take it for a few test drives. It was his first time driving since I put the put the disc brakes on and he was really liking those.
He sent me a post transplant shot sitting in the driveway. Quote:

Thanks Phillip! Congrats on your new little one by the way. Our first is 6 months old now so we're new to the parenting gig as well.

Re: The Egg Hauler.... not much of a build
Thanks rusty!
Well it looks like I might have to start a new build thread soon, but I will put the teaser pic and a few details in this thread. Been looking for a new project and finally found one to take a look at this morning. Got out the door at 6 am and drove 2 hours to check it out. Got some rough places but its an original looking truck, is exactly what I hoped it would be, and the price was right. 63 3/4 ton with a service bed. Lettering has been painted over on the doors but looks to have been used by the town of Lexington Sc water Dept. Has a running 235 with a 4 speed. Paid a deposit on it and agreed to pick it up in the next week or two. |

The grille is a 1962 grille. But you already know that! Great find. Plans? That outhouse in the background is straight out of the movies! Does that come with it? LOL!

Hahah I didn't even see the outhouse when I was there. Wanna get it driving and stopping good first then probably work on lowering it. I think it would be cool to bag it and get it way down. And a T5 is not out of the question either |

Re: The Egg Hauler.... not much of a build
Cool find! Seems to be a popular trend with the utility trucks these days. Yeah that's a '62 grille & emblem, so I'd bet that's actually what you have.

Re: The Egg Hauler.... not much of a build
Awesome find there! I second that it's a 62 because of the grille and emblem but also because the 235 wasn't offered in 63 (except for 4x4 trucks)

It looks like a short wheel base. Have you measured?

Re: The Egg Hauler.... not much of a build
Thanks guys...I think it will make a sweet ride. Plenty of work to do on it, but it did make its way into the garage under its own power today!
I haven't measure yet, but my garage says it's a long wheel base haha. The Egg Hauler had a little extra room behind it when parked but this one is almost wall to wall. I agree the proportions don't look as exaggerated as most LWB trucks though. |
