Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck
More progress today. Started work on the drivers side front fender. Taking a slightly different approach this time, hopefully it turns out a bit better then the passengers. All the bends are turning out awesome with the new body work hammer and dolly, no more ball peen! I really slowed down my work and decided to utilize the hand file to bring down the welds to reduce the heat on the metal.

Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck
Fender looks good Anthony, I know how lots of rust repair can get very frustrating, that's why I've taken a bit of a break from it myself. Keep up the good work

More progress on the fender. I got the patch all welded in and hammered smooth. Really happy how it's coming along.

Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck
I got the last of the rust repair done for the drivers side fender yesterday. Pretty happy with the results. Patched a bit on the front top section as well as the inside grill surround and inner front support. I also cleaned up and painted all of the support brackets and seal support brackets.

Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck
Here we go! Back down island. Time to get some work done. I started to get the front end of the panel all stripped down, cleaned up and ready for the Cummins. I had a good look at all the front end sheet metal and there will be only minimal repairs, so excited about that hahaha

Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck
Here she is now. I removed the front 2 cross members and the front suspension. Then I wire wheeled the fire wall and the frame rails and applied a healthy amount of POR. The engine should just slide between the frame rails. Then install the cross members. The Dodge is giving up her heart soon!

The wait is over hahaha! The Cummins is out of the Dodge and I have begun the mounting process. I will be utilizing the cross members, for the motor and trans, from the Dodge as they line up with the components and fit between the frame rails really nicely. |

Kept her working hard right to the end hahaha. Few loads to the dump, moved some stuff and did 3 loads of gravel. It was a good truck, RIP

Yeah me as well, there will definetly have to be some modifications. I'm thinking it will be in the rad support and grill. I want to incorporated them together to safe space. It is a little tight in the front. I wanted to have the motor about another 1/2" to 1" further back but it wouldn't have been able to squeeze the oil pan over the motor cross member and the fire wall. O well I will make it work. The motor is on the mounts now, i am working on getting the trans cross member in now. Last edited by AJCK87; 05-27-2016 at 12:51 PM. |

I will have 20+ days off coming up at the end of June, so I will be getting down to business getting every thing hooked up on the panel. I spent some more time on the front fender today getting close to wrapping that up. I will be moving on to the grill and head lights after that. Got some epoxy laid down! |

Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck
There was so much Bondo on this fender to smooth out the old fiber glass, had to go hahaha. Way lighter now. Kinda don't mind the few dings, hammered them out pretty well before primer.

Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck
Thanks Nik! Trying to keep moving forward. Can't wait to get back down island to transfer more components to the panel.
I began stripping the grill and head light assembalies. I cleaned them up and applied some POR, sure makes a difference! |
