I believe you're beyond the need of a parts car, but I saw this in the Phoenix Craigslist:

Gotta give credit to Bruce on the majority of the bodywork. Karl gave it one last block and finishing touches before squirting that beautiful blue.

Thanks, but yeh; no need. I did consider going with an early rear bumper like that at one point.

There are a few compatible parts; trunk hinges for example. But nothing I need.

Bigger version of last pic:

Parts for blasting and powdercoating:

Hood hinges back from powder and installed:

Clutch pedal and MC assy are mounted with the left hood hinge (sames bolts used for both)

Hood on:

...and closed. Still needs all hood bumpers installed

ID tag and grille rivets installed:

Karl polished this up:

and the door latches cleaned up nicely. Will send them for zinc plating later.

This looks AMAZING!!! I really like how this is coming along! What an excellent choice with the new painter, he's knocking it out of the park.

I do have one question. How do you know what parts need to be masked off for painting the engine? It looks like you taped off the area where the exhaust manifold mounts originally, but then in the finished pics it looks like they are painted. I'm debating painting my engine, but don't want to screw it up

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

the eaziest way to do that is take pictures of the assembled engine and tape of the holes (earplugs work good on boltholes ) and tape off the machined surfaces
that gives the nices factory fresh result
originally they paint the block then machine it

Every engine (honda) that i have ever rebuilt has never been painted. Its just bare aluminum.

Intake ports were plugged and masked, exhaust ports only capped.

Was bare aluminum factory.

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

ok ok iron blocks are usually painted that way , aluminium blocks can be done the same way
i wonder if there be a thermic disadvantage to putting paint on aluminium (i immagine they will run hotter with a layer of paint on them) but knowing the way they try to safe money its prolly just because it saves cash

Google 'painting aluminum engine block' and you'll find plenty of discussions and info on it. Bottom line is water cooled engines are cooled by the coolant circulating through them, not by ambient air.

Manufacturers don't paint aluminum because brand new aluminum engines look great in the showroom.

Is the grill anodized aluminum? Seen some people take the anodized aluminum headlight bezels on Corvairs and strip the anodizing off and polish them up on the buffer wheel with good results.

It's really looking very nice. There has probably very few that have had that much attention to detail on the body work before paint.

Are the grills available still. Where did you get yours from. Mine on the Cob has been made from two. Also need the panel the grill mounts to.

Cheers Mal
