Re: 1968

If you have some casting nubs (kinda squair looking things) the top they may end up hitting the valve cover on the driver side, they look like what i got from Doorman.

Re: 1968

George, after reading your complete build(ya all 90 some pages!) you are doing a great job on this truck! Keep up the great work and it will be on the road soon.

And as I read, your goal was to have it on the road by your birthday...(you didnt really say WHAT year though) .... I think you can do it! The weather will be in your favor very soon, so keep collecting parts til you can finish it up and get it on the road!

I hope to have it running down the road this Aug which is my birthday. I probably stated that I wanted it finished by my birthday, but three years later I am waiting for it to happen.

Re: 1968

George, I never got back to look for the prices of the manifolds. We got tired and cold and went home. But I did see ones that had straight exits for $75 for a pair. There were quite a few forsale there and I wasn't even really looking for them.
I have one at home but i can not remember what side it is.

Well, I boxed up the manifolds and will ship them back. I just don't care about the looks and shape of the manifolds. Does anyone have a set of manifolds for sale.

Re: 1968

Thanks Dean, got to ship the manifolds back tomorrow. Waiting for the exhaust system to get here. Tomorrow I got a couple places to look for a another set of manifolds. A friend gave me a set today but they were for a 89. bolt pattern was wrong. but good try.

Re: 1968

Hi there. I wanted to say thanks so much for posting all the pictures along the way. It has helped me understand what is ahead for me, and I'm using your pictures as a reference for what's missing on my 1968 GMC 1 ton.

Quick question all the way back to page 5 when you installed the front shocks. How did you attach it to the frame on the top and the bottom? The new shocks I just bought come with one bolt with threads on either end. I'm not sure if that should be used on the frame side (top) or bottom A-arm. Any advice or picture you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 1968

Today I received my new set of manifolds that I purchased local, I will sand blast them and paint them with 2000 temp paint. I will post pictures of them tomorrow. I also picked up my 1406 edelbrock carb. 600cfm electric choke with the chrome fuel rail and the braded gas line. I need 4 stainless bolts for the carb base so I didn't even try and install the carb. I also got a chrome air filter. Not really sure if I will use this air filter. I see now why I put off buying the carb. What a price.

George if you can get some carb studs you will never go back to bolts. Even Pep Boys and Advance Auto have them.

Re: 1968

I agree on the stud kit, there are different length kits avalable, Edelbrock also make a spacer thats roughly 1/2" thick, i have read that it helps it run better so i added one myself, but to me the verdict is still out.

Re: 1968

George, Is that a "universal type" exhaust system that you are going to install, or one specific to 67-72 chevy shortbeds ??
Interested to see how it fits on your short stepside.....I am going to be needing one soon for my ongoing project soon also.

Curious to know what system that is too... I just ordered the Flowmaster down tubes for mine, but have to have them bent a little to route through my crossmember. Also I was wondering with systems like what you're using.. do they clamp together or will you have to weld it?

I ordered a header back exhaust system. I thought it would have the down pipes in the kit also. But I was wrong it had set up for headers only. So I ordered a set of down pipes separate from another company. Summit racing did not have the down pipes. I would have to box the kit and send it back so I just kept the kit. Didn't want to go thru what I went thru on the front and rear bumpers.
