Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

questions you'll be able to answer after watching this fascinating video:

1. Where is the Greg and Dusty going?
2. How far did Americans drive per day before DIVOC?
3. How many shake down miles is the Greg trying to put on the truck?
4. How old were you when you got your driver's license?

and more...

Just a reminder to cast a vote for this amazing build. I appreciate all the candidates this month but to hand build a fully functioning ev in your garage is truly next level.

Plus a bump for gregski!

Ok, back to class for test 2. If I was paying attention there was only two questions asked.
Capitol of New York - Albany
What gear do you dyno an automatic trans in - High Gear (1:1), do not use overdrive. You want it to be 1:1 ratio.

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

today is the big day, we are going to go get Dusty dynoed at a place called Holeshot Performance in Sacramento California, judging by these pics they seem to be Chevy Truck Friendly, CTF, we spoke to a nice guy there named Rick who will allow us to take pics and shoot some talkies

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

more vertical dyno videos (I think YouTube limits us to 60 seconds so I tend to post a bit longer ones, 90 seconds on the_gregski Instagram) a longer format video is being edited as we speak, or I type and you read (you get the idea, lol)

for any of you Nor Cal guys and gals, this place Holeshot Performance is in Rancho Cordova off of Sunrise Blvd and White Rock and Rick and Jake (and Rick's wife) are salt of the earth people, the shop is brand new and the cleanest one I have ever been in

122 hp @ 42 mph using only one motor not both (on a 60% charged battery pack)

219 ft-lbs torque (this was estimated since we had no useable RPM signal)

CAR SPECS
  • 3,200 lbs vehicle weight
  • 1.9 CVT Transmission gear reduction
  • GM 12 bolt rear end 3.73 gears
  • 7.087 total gear reduction
  • 215/65 R17 tires (28" tire diameter)

LESSONS LEARNED
  • at this time Electric Vehicles can not provide a tach RPM signal output to the dynos, not even the OEMs like Tesla and Rivian (their sh!et is locked down)

we used a Dyno Jet 223 XLC

Vehicle RPM Hook Ups with Dynojet Automotive Dynamometers

this video goes over the five different ways you can send RPM signal from the vehicle to the dynamometer (maybe two of these could work for the EV, what do you think?)
  1. Inductive Pickups (this is the method we already tried and it did NOT work)
  2. Optical Pickup
  3. EZ-RPM Module
  4. OBDII Data Link
  5. Calculating RPM

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

So at the moment, you are getting 6 cyl power levels? That will do some work.

pretty much, in Phase II we plan to enable the second motor, it is a bit smaller but that should put us above 200 hp at the wheel, I am also planning on adding a second battery pack in parallel, which means more oompffhh

I have things planned out to take us up to Phase III, and here's a little teaser, that Inverter can handle 600 volts and currently we are just giving her 351 nominal

Damien the second person to pull off this conversion (me being maybe the 6th now) has dynoed his BMW with both motors at 226 hp LandYacht On The Dyno he had two battery packs, one just like mine, the second out of a Nissan Leaf a bit of a hodge podge setup

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

The final touch after your final power levels are found is to add fake exhaust stacks that blow bubbles as you drive.
