Signed up after spending the last week reading through this thread! What an absolute joy - well played FF!
I only stumbled across the thread while looking for hose clamp alternatives for my '64 Herald |

Saw this yesterday. Just finished. Sick, sick, sick!
Did you ever think of making a front flip hood? Would have gotten rid of your hinges and opened up space for under dash stuff. I'm sure most think it was a stock British thing and think nothing of it. Two more thoughts: engine turned instrument panel Take a rectangle sheet of metal. Run 2 bead rolls, one 1/2" from edge, one 2" from that one. Inside center rectangle put a bunch of louvers. Replace the ugly plastic piece on the engine. |

Hi Frizzle Fry,
I have been following your build from here in England. I am stunned by your craftmanship! If I had an ounce of your skill, I wouod be proud of that. I too have a 66 Hillman Minx that I am trying to restore. The body was ten times worse than that car you cut the front off. I had no inner wings at all and very rusty front wings. I am looking forward to seeing any more progress - keep up the fantastic work! Jeff in England. |

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
Hello,
Have loved the build, has been an amazing journey, I look forward to each new post! I got married a few weeks ago and decided to build a car for the occasion. My father has a '63 Hillman Minx Series IIIC. I picked up two 1964 Hillman Minx's to build one good one out of. This was the one that eventually became the finished car. I worked hard on it for a year, restoring everything i could. This is how it all ended up. Plans are to put a Nissan CA18DET into it and keep it as stock looking as possible. Frizzle, your build has been a huge help in me getting my build completed, and your standard of build is second to none! Keep up the amazing work! Thanks |

Hi Frizzle,
A challenge is one word for it. I don't want to hijack your thread with my rubbish, but I thought I'd share an example of what I am up against. The repaired inner wing does look a bit odd, that's because I had nothing to base it on. That was made using a bench vice, a hammer and lots of swearing. All the repair sections I have made myself. There just does not seem to be any new / old stock panels for these old Rootes cars. If I ever get this car running it will be a miracle, perhaps I should have let the Junk yard cube it. I can't wait to see your car finished. Regards Jeff. Last edited by Pompeyfan; 01-27-2017 at 04:57 PM. Reason: spelling, no attachments |

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
allways suprized at wat the english consider restorable , the wet and near the coastline silty climate in the UK in general isnt realy good for cars
dont think the car wouldve passed MOT here even after the repair as the inner fender is a load bearing part of the cars structure

Frizzle,
I have consistently enjoyed reading the progress you've made. Having spent the last week reading this thread, I must commend you for such outstanding work. I have read hundreds of vehicle build threads over the years and I can honestly say your attention to detail is stunning. Props to you, sir... now give this beautiful little car the last bit of work she needs and start driving! PS-Are you planning on heading to the Beaches cruise-in at PIR this summer? |

OMG you're working on it again - YAY!!!
$.02 - MAPP gas torch more better for everything - especially copper pipe soldering, BBQ burner lighting, cigar lighting... and on. The flame is a little hotter and it makes all the difference in sweating pipe. And since you're a tool guy - get the self igniter you will never look back. |

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
Update! Finally finished the ridiculously detailed sound deadener install... Way overboard ..even for me. I have some thermal liner to add as well... Had some help: aaaaaand started the wiring install: Had to chop these five wires in order to remove them when I had the car media blasted. They are the only factory wires remaining. Here they are reunited and it feels so good... Zip-tie/tie-wrap anchors ready to secure them in place for good: Along with the wiring install I started the heater hose install since they run under the dash and need to be installed sooner than later. In order to land them I needed to complete the heater core mods by soldering these 90* fittings. Lets hope they're solid! |

(only old guys caught that reference) Seriously, I can't speak for the noico liner or the DEI, but that gaffers tape is tougher than a $2 steak. I was moto riding and a turn signal fell off, hanging by the wires--one of the guys who's a theater nut taped it back on with gaffer's tape. It stayed like that for months, and when I got around to fixing it--that tape was like a weld. |

Thanks Rob. I picked up some of this to use over the fatmat on the interior. Still trying to determine what to use under the trans tunnel and under side near exhaust. Any suggestions? |
