Hey Rob. Since the trans tunnel is painted and won't be covered I need to install sound and thermal barriers on the underside (in addition to the raptor liner already there). So I went ahead and bought the DEI product for under the trans tunnel and above the exhaust where it's close to the floor.

I haven't installed the Noico. Still researching the appropriate application for it. I'm a little concerned about some of the reviews to it may be shelved for now.

2" gaffer tape is in play, yes. Seems really high quality.

A little more progress.

I discovered Gaffer Tape for securing interior wiring. Stuff seems really solid. The ex-avionics tech in me wanted to use clamps everywhere but I had to resist the urge.






Engine compartment / Front lights wiring started and Heater Blower Motor in place:


aaaaaaaand removed the suspension once again. Control arms and rear links will be off to powdercoating soon. Clean/bare underside = good access for fuel/brake lines install.

the gleu in gaffertape will turn to powder after a few years in the heat and sun but to mount it temporary untill the panels are in place or protect the wiring it should be good

Thanks for keepin it real OEMs are using this type of tape for the same purpose. I'll be applying the nioco liner over it as well.

Car look great and it is good to see more progress.

When I followed the link to the nioco liner there were some comments in the reviews about the adhesives melting and dripping later. Is there any concern on their comments or has the product been improved to keep that from happening? I would hate to see that with all the work that you have done.

Yeh, you're right. 4stars overall but some concerning ones in there. I haven't messed with it yet. For under the trans tunnel I'm thinking I'll pick up this DEI product.


For under the carpet this might be a good candidate.

maibe a bedliner like rinoliner works if you paint it on in several layers
all you basicly need to do is prevent the metal from ringing by adding a softer material or weight

Yeh, the whole undercarriage is coated with raptorliner. Looking for additional measures.

oh its pretty strong allright even though you have different qualities of gaffer tape for different aplications , most common is to seal up airductwork in offices and houses

did you know it was originally devellopped to be a watertight seal for ammoboxes ?
that why they allso call it ducktape as water falls of it like from a ducks back (even though people tink its duct tape)

its just that over time (talking years here) the gleu becomes hard and turns intoo powder and the backing basicly crumbles like burned paper

Actual Gaffer's tape is different than duct tape. It's used by the "gaffer" in stage, TV, and industrial production to attach or cover things the audience isn't supposed to see or tape down electrical cords on stage to prevent the actors from tripping. It's matte black so it doesn't reflect the lighting. I would never have come across it if I hadn't met a theater guy.

I was moto riding and a turn signal fell off, hanging by the wires--one of the guys who's a theater nut taped it back on with gaffer's tape. It stayed like that for months, and when I got around to fixing it--that tape was like a weld.

Yep, it's definitely not duck/duct tape. The stuff I bought had excellent reviews and I can see why.

Since the trans tunnel is painted and will not be covered inside the car I'm doing a layer of deadener in addition to the DEI thermal barrier. Got the sound deadener in place after a thorough cleaning with wax/grease remover:

Looks great Frizzle! Do the Rattletrap guys have any feedback on using this on the exterior? Seems like the environment is a lot harsher in the trans tunnel that what you'd expect inside.

Also, can you tell more about the DEI thermal barrier? I checked out their website and while it looks like it functions well, I'm not sure I'd want it showing much in my engine bay. Are you planning to put any on the firewall? If not, are you concerned about heat in that area?
