Primed the underside of the bed while my bodyman was working over the rear fenders getting them ready for primer. Let dry a few hours and undercoated the underside of the bed. bodyman then laid down some high build DTM primer on the rear fenders, hood, grill, and cowl.
Came out real nice.
Getting the bed stuff ready for color in a couple weeks.

Wow, I had to go back 5 pages to find this thread! Stop the slacking guys!

I am behind: yesterday I put the last coat of paint on the newly derusted hood latch bracket. Today I paid for a Custom/10 emblem for my NOS front fender.

I also called the media blaster, my parts are ready.

OH! I had a look at my original cowling and it's really too badly rusted so I got the 1967 cowling down out of my dad's attic. If the hole for the antennae lines up with my original or the antenna fits it, I'll use it.

finished putting together my side A/C vent speaker pods. Now to cut the dash. I am not looking forward to that. Measure 15 times and cut once will be my motto for this project. Also got the solid window with stainless installed. It looks so much better than the old slider without any stainless.

I also put off picking up my fenders from the media blaster due to predicted heavy rain in his area. Monday is the new date for that.

Thanks MoFormula. It is a relatively cheap solution to my speaker problems. Now to mount some speakers with more mid range sound. I think those will go where the stock speaker used to reside.

Restoring under the bed while it's off. I "finished" getting the paint off the frame, though still have a little to go when the leaf springs, brakes, shocks, and exhaust come off, but it's close. Took about 8 hours with paint remover and lacquer thinner. Kind of a bear, but it's really not bad. Next weekend comes the axle and differential. After that it gets a bath and the real fun "phase two" begins.

Incidentally, this restoration business is a kind of a blast. Always something to make look new again.

All I did today was run ERR on another bracket and then soak it (along with the hood latch) in Evaporust. I hope to get those derusted and repainted within days.

Replaced the old dash speaker with a replacement pair and installed the Retrosound Hermosa made for 67-72 GM Trucks

I replaced the rubber fuel line on my 400 sbc with 3/8" steel line instead. I have a late model serpentine setup so had to snake it between the timing cover and water pump which took a while to get the bends right. I still have a couple of short rubber connectors for the fuel filter but feel much safer without all that rubber touching the motor.

i had a blast yesterday and ended up with "some" clean parts that are ready for epoxy.

these dang latch&catches are kicking my butt.
this is the forth time i blasted them and tried the eastwood metal blacking solution.
each time they turn out like this.
they look black and great right outa the solution but by the time they dry this is what i end up with. funny cause i've had good luck useing this stuff on other small parts.

time too try something else on them.

Well that's great! I made my own fuel lines a few weeks ago but may have to make my own under hood lines in case the ones from Inline Tube don't match with the carb.

All I have done so far today has been to restart ERR on the hood latch and I wire wheeled the last of the rust off of the triangular fender-to-core support bracket. It's badly pitted but serviceable.

I did a little more today.

I figured out the 1967 cowling I have isn't up to my liking to go onto my truck. :-(

I also got all the rust off of the fender to core support bracket (it has lots of pits!) and coated it with NAPA Rust Treatment. This stuff is really just a primer so I'll paint it tomorrow.

Took a wire wheel and stripper wheel to the bed floor, removing surface rust and dried glue/paint spills and preparing it for blasting. Gonna do the wheel wells tonight. Bed sides and back panel are already done, so I'm almost ready to hang plastic and start blasting.

I finally did something a bit more "normal" perhaps for this forum (instead of electrolysis ). I drove 6 hours round trip today and picked up my media blasted and epoxy-primed OEM core support, NOS fender, and NOS outer rocker panels.

I just got in and I am tired!

I installed the newly rebuilt carburetor (7029214) that my wife surprised me with on Father's Day. It was from one of the professional quadrajet builders and I chose not to go with the show plating. Apparantly, she has been in contact with him for awhile trying to answer questions. She told me what she was up to and that I had to speak with him. When she told me I was shocked. He said he would have it finished by father's day.

On those door latches , all you needs do is make up a dilute Phosphoric Acid & water solution , when you're finished de rusting thrm , rinse them off and quickly dip them into the Phosphorus solution , it will *instantly* prevent the flash rusting you're struggling with now .

DO NOT use undiluted Phosphoric acid ! you can dip your fingers into it yes but it's not good for the steel .

NO alloy / pot metal parts either ! .

Brass , like completely rusted closed carby jets , will come out looking new as will old rusty chrome bumper bolts but pot metal or alloy things will be ruined .

The best part is : you can strain and jug this solution for years of re use , making it very co$t effective .

Nice to see all the hard works going on here , Spring must have sprung although heavy rain storms have dogged us all the way across America .

I am surprised to see many folks simply pull off the road and stop , emergency flashers going instead of simply slowing down to safe speeds .

The big rigs often flash past us in less than 1/4 mile visibility going 85 + MPH .

71CHEVYSHORTBED402 : have you tried a wire wheel for rust removal ? I go through them like crazy (buy by the box full) and have worn out $25 Harbor Freight drill motors but I like the resulting clean bare metal and no chemical burns .

The (in)famous Rochester Qudrajet carby is in fact a sterling carby , you'll need to upgrade the fuel inlet and jet well plugs so they don't weep/seep/leak and cause engine fires but once repaired and properly set up they never ever go out of adjustment and provide good drivability plus power when you stamp the foot feed and open up the secondaries .

Finally got around to dragging the original bench to my '72 out of the back yard, into the garage, and onto a stand so I could remove all the ancient vinyl and foam. The driver side bolts attaching the back to the base are rusted, so I'll have to drill them out tonight.

A bit of time with the wire wheel on the drill motor, maybe a quick blast with the media blaster when I do the bed this weekend, spray with some NAPA anti-rust black, then into storage until I get to the point of re-upholstering it.
