Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

We just got my rear differential installed after its third rebuild. Finally found someone who is the best at doing these, and got all my issues resolved. Now I'm back on the road with all new hardware for the back - new u bolts, lowering blocks, all new hardware for the shocks and track bar. The track bar was restored and new bushings installed. A new to me back brake line and new hose from the frame. Also took the opportunity to install new parking brake cables on each side - were non-functioning before. Looks so good, and performs perfectly. I just finished my short break-in drives yesterday. Couldn't be happier with it..

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I spent the day fabricating some new ft upper shock mounts with my new Yeswelder 55 plasma cutter for my 67. Yes you can buy them but I needed them to be just a bit lower on the frame, so i could keep my new Viking shocks. The shocks were only getting 1-1/2 before they could bottom out. Now they will have 2-1/2 and still have a little on the rebound side. I will Powdercoat them in color today and then install. More pics to come.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Did the modifications and installed electronic gizmos on the A/C controls for the Vitage Air setup. Spent an hour looking for the 3 little chrome nobs that I put away for safe keeping 3 or 4 years ago. Still looking.
Sorry did not take a picture, to late in the evening.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Fresh VR1 oil, filter and greased up all her joints.

Also, painted the inside of my spear wheel, it annoyed me to no end how it looked. Why I didn't do that BEFORE I put the new tire on is beyond me.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

New mounts in on the 67, and way better ride now. Getting the little bit of length added to the fronts helped a lot. I have my ft shocks on 4/8 and the rears are on 0/2 and the truck has never road so smooth. Very happy with the new Viking shocks and the way it turned out. Truck has 4" drop springs with a 3/4" spacer in ft, rear springs are very messaged to 4 leaf and a flip kit.

That is really nice, the black lines/arms look awesome on that blue frame.

Thanks for the comment. This truck has been a runner since I bought it in 1980 and lifted it with 38s then 40s for 40 years. Loved it then and really love it no on the ground now

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Sat and stared at the crate my new motor arrived in. Rain for the next 2 days and a road trip for work tomorrow are preventing me from even opening it. Very pleased with the dyno results of 385/409 HP/TQ on an advertised 365/401 motor tho.

Lol, yeah. It's kinda killing me!! I just can't bring myself to do it with this rain when I can't really get started until after a trip to the office tomorrow. It will be SSybil's final and farthest road trip on the old motor. So, I sit, I stare, I obsess, hehe.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Finished up the heater rebuild and install. Not sure if I got heat but I at least have three fan speeds. Gonna pick up better hose clamps before I get much further.

Started working on installing the new vinyl flooring as well. Lots of trimming and fitting before I am done there. Had to weld up three holes the PO had drilled in the floor to install an early 90's seat. A buddy of mine is making me some custom brackets to use that seat with the factory mounting holes.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Removed my rear end this evening. I had this crazy fantasy that I'd open it up and everything would look great inside. Not so. The axle shafts are pitted and the ring gear has a chunk missing from one tooth. The oil is nice and glittery. I also discovered this rear end isn't original to the truck. It's from a 1970, so it is wider than the original 1968 unit.

I'll be replacing the axles, gears, bearings, seals, and will install an Eaton Posi carrier. I will also be cleaning and painting the exterior.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

My quadrajet had been leaking fuel from the bowl so thinking the well plugs were leaking I removed it for repair. Before I removed the well plugs and replaced them I thought I'd better make sure those were the source. I filled the float bowl and let it sit for a couple of hours. No leak. I didn't want to put that carb back on without finding the leak so I figured now would be a good time to try out a Holley 4360 Economaster I rebuilt a while ago. Popped that sucker on it started right away and idled. Did some tweaking on the idle speed and mixture and that was that. I'm going to try heating the quadrajet bowl up to operating temperature and see if that exposes the leak.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I spent the last 3 days refinishing my Ironwood box and making a frame to lift the floor 2-1/2" to gain rearend clearance. Made the frame from 1x1 tubing and angle cross bars. Tomorrow I will finish up the end cap. I was beating the center board with that 12 bolt before the bump stops hit in the C notch.
