Ahh, Mike sorry to hear about your boy. I'll keep him in my prayers.
I'm totally digging that welding cart. You can post up as many pictures as you want. It's got a bunch of great ideas worthy of stealing!

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

Mike it's been a really long time sense i played ball, lol but if the rock on my shoulders still works i use to use tape. I mean i would tape up my foot really good before a game and it helped, i don't know if that is the right thing to do anymore, but it did help in my case. I wish you the best, it's got to be hard to keep him from wanting to play. good luck mike

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

he prolly has to watch out even more when the cast is off to train his muscles again
maibe its an idea to put him in a gym to train under supervision , from wat i understand you can make it stronger trough training

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

For those who are wondering or dont know and are reading this...Sever's Disease is a painful inflammation calcaneal apophysis (very back part of your heel where your achilles attaches. taping doesnt help from what I know of it, I have only treated two patients with minor cases of it. The best thing is to stop what is irritating it which is the reason for the cast. I will ask my pediatric adviser if there is any thing she knows of that will help. I really hope that it isnt his Histiocytosis and his immune system attacking his calcaneous (heel), or your in for a long battle. Best of luck for you and your little one!

thank you and yes we hope it isnt also, when they are finished with the cast and the boot, they are going to do another CT scan from the waist down to make sure it isnt something from his Histiocytosis !

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

i wonder if he got it through an injury , it might be a good idea to make him stretch and warm up every morning after his shower or even shortly after comming out of bed and before exercizing/sporting , if he likes his sports and wants to keep doing it he just has to work on staying healty

when i was young i worked as a mover i took the bottom when we had to take an electric organ downstairs i was walking down sideways and had to twist my arm to get my hand to hold ontoo the darn thing
the guy on top lifted up too far the organ started to rest on my shoulder and i felt sumting tear , that was 20 years ago and my shoulder still bothers me at times aspecially during bad weather , i can feel sumting click inside and cant rotate it like the other one , i mightve been able to prevent it if i hadnt continued working right after that

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

Each case is a little different and carries a different disease name, but it is a common term for when someone has too many histiocytes. Which are a type of macrophages and macrophages eat tissue usually that has died due to apoptosis (programed cell death) or dead tissue from inflammation/ injury. But instead it attacks healthy tissue whether it be your organs or bone or skin ect...

yes thank you, that is a much better explanation then i would have come up with, on my son the way i understand it is when the white blood cells gang up on something to defeat it , it eats a hole in whatever it is over, in his case it had eaten a hole about the size of a quarter all the way through his skull at the base of it right above the neck, they went in and cut it all out and patched it with "skull bondo" and now the actual bone has grown back through that . They say that it usually shows up when a kid breaks a leg or arm or something and they do the xray and realize that it broke because there was a hole through it , no cure for it just something that they watch for by doing a complete scan every couple of years to try to catch anything ! LOL, that is what it is in my layman terms

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

wow..... explaning it like that he should be carefull in contactsports of any kind as any bruises could kick up the problem again
i figured it was just an inflamation of the tissue that ataches the muscle to the bone needing time to heal , thats why i adviced the training and warming up to make that tissue stronger , im dutch and soccer here is about as big as baseball and football over in the states , even in amateurcompetition you see a lot of injured ankles that are twisted or plain hit by other players trying to stop the hit player
quite a few profesional players have been forced to stop because their ankles or knees where shot

it might not even be a good idea to stretch out too mush while warming up

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

Longbed67 , can correct me if i am explaining that wrong but that is how i understand it, and yes we are as careful with him as can be but man the kid loves soccer , and he has a great head for the game, hopefully he will be playing again by next fall, the Dr said the spring soccer season is deffinately out !

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

That is really not good if his prefers bone! It will make it harder for him to heal. For sure the spring soccer season is out! If he were to go back in this spring not only is he at very high risk of a re-occurrence but he would be at high risk of an ankle injury as well due to the not being able to use it for 4 weeks. I know it will be hard for him not to push himself too much because he is young and determined especially if it is something he loves! If it is a bad case he really needs the time to let it heal, i.e. NO IMPACT on the heel, the biggest thing about Sever's is that it is really made worse by repetitive stress. To reduce that impact stress which would further make it worse he was casted now when he comes out he will be very weak at the ankle due to not using it. I would definitely recommend going to Physical Therapy with a pediatric therapist who understands Sever's for exercises that will help rebuild Range of Motion, then stability, and then strength in the ankle.

We'll pray for you. There's no comparison of the love one has for his kids or the extent that we parents will go to for our kids. God Bless you brother.
