Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I "fixed' my wife's Porsche today. Not much of a job. The battery went dead because she never drives it.

So. It was a nice day and I thought I'd put the top down and take it for a spin. One problem. My Thunderbird was parked behind it and that battery was dead on that one too. The refrigerator was working just fine. So I called it a day and grabbed a cold one. I'll fix the other one tomorrow.

I wanted one giant one, but didn’t want to deal with pulling permits and having my property tax increased. 10x12 is the largest you can go without having to do that, but you can build it as tall as you want so I opted for barn style with lofts for even more storage. The goal is to clean out my 3 car garage and make that my shop to work on my truck and other vehicles.

My city is the same way, but I used a metal shed. I sometimes consider that I should have listened to my wife and built a cripple wall to set the shed on, but the real problem is that we have way too much junk. If my wife dies before I do, there will be a couple of 30-yard dumpsters cycled through my curbside. That's after I sell off the "antiques".

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I got back to my barn move a bit today. I laid the block for the connector walls on the "move to" side. Next I'll remove the temporary posts on both sides so the building will be sitting on the connector walls, which are same height as new foundation the buildin will rest on. I'll take as picture tomorrow.

I sure do like to do things the hard way. What have I been thinking trying to move this building by myself? I should just call on some friends

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Converted the 62 Lark from single to dual brakes. System doesn’t need a portioning valve as they designed it to be balanced . Just need to bleed the rest of the system . Bench bleed the master already , I used a master for a 1970 full size GM . Did my research and a lot of Studebaker owners have had good results with this and also the master from a 1968 Mustang . The mustang you need to replace the rod as it’s 1/4 to short. This master is exact so it’s a complete bolt in no mods just need to play the line coming out of the junction to the rear and use a union fitting .

Are you giving up camping? Then let those items go with the camper. If not, you need a mini storage unit.

A friend of mine recently bought a motor home for basically pennies (ish) on the dollar because people are turning them in since they cant afford the gas prices. Maybe like the days when muscle cars were cheap because of the gas crisis scare?

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

If I could afford an RV I could afford the gas. People always react like this is it, the way it will stay, when fuel prices spike. There is always over reaction. Used car lots will only want good mpg vehicles and trucks and SUVs will drop in price. It happened before, then it went right back to more people than ever buying big trucks and SUVs and the RV market boomed again. The consumer public is so fickle it isn't funny. If things are that bad then maybe someone will buy the travel trailer to live in it!

Gas prices don't affect my motorhome because I never drive it. It's been sitting in the same spot for 2 years now. One of these days I'll take the old girl out camping.

'twas ever thus. I remember the situation in '76, when a guy with an Eldorado was asking me, while I was working on it, what he should do with it. Being my ever-political self, I told him he could part it out. He was not amused, and said he wasn't running a junkyard. I'm looking forward to the stuff hitting the fan and being able to profiteer on my econobox and buy an old truck for cheap. #mercenary Prices will go down (on fuel) and up (on vehicles) again, because John Q. Public has the memory of a goldfish. When the market tanks, Ima buy another house or two.

By that logic people in AL should be buying the CA RVs because their gas is so much cheaper

This is my concern also with selling our Travil Trailer ..I have no proof of this here where I live but what you say must be happening .
What I am going to do soon as I ready it to sell ,,is use what the dealers are asking for their travel trailers like ours and then drop down under their price .. I should be able to do that considerably and still get more for it than what we paid for it .. we'll see

If you cant afford $5 diesel you shouldnt be driving a 400k motorhome. I can see the market decline in low end MH and travel trailers . High end there is a wait for one.

That's truth, right there! Fuel is a big cost for going camping, but the rent is a lot cheaper, so it's a good offset. We don't have to spend the night in someone else's bed, either. My wife really likes camping. I'm OK with it, is all I can say for it.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Since it’s snowing out I cleaned and replaced the power cord on a 1950s Mimar Dynafan model “325” that I rescued from the trash last week . Oiled the motor has oil tubes for the bearings and it works great . Low speed not working most likely a resister on the switch . But it really has a lot of power on high and very quiet. Made in Brooklyn NY
