Stainless Drip Rail?
Found a truck at the local salvage today, I took the windsheild trim from it but it also had the SS drip rail that looked to have came from the factory. It was in excellent shape, no dings, no bent spots. Guy would probably only charge 5 bucks for it all. Question: Is this an odd or seldome seen option? I know ive seen it in LMC but this is the first time ive seen it on a truck in a yard. It was riveted on, so i'll be returning next week with my drill to get it.

Re: Stainless Drip Rail?
I believe they only came from the factory on '69 trucks. They were such a hassle to install GM stopped using them after that. This is what I read on here, don't know if it is true or not. I tried putting a set on, ended up throwing it out Boardmember JeremiahKing has it on his factory original 69, so it might be true, who knows?

Re: Stainless Drip Rail?
Was option, but dropped due to fit issues, the dealer fix was to use sheet metal screws or pop rivets to hold them in place. The "fix" for the repop isnt much different, but instead of option "A" or option "B" people use an epoxy to hold them in place. They are rare, becuase the ones that were installed, fell off if the truck was used much and were scrapped instead of saved. There is a segment in the build manual addressing this and also a cancellation order of the RPO just after it.

Here's my 69 with all LMC chrome and stainless on it. The only problem I had was the little clips between the pieces and I finally epoxied them on.

Re: Stainless Drip Rail?
Wait, I think we're talking 2 different things here. The moulding i'm talking about runs around the channel on the front of the cab to the bottom of the drivers and passengers windows on the cab by the door. LMC calls it stainless steel drip moulding. I'll check to see if it's on the glove box when I get back over there.

Re: Stainless Drip Rail?
Yeah, I should have said VetteVet, his pic has the Window shades that I have heard called drip rails.
Did a quick RPO code search and I came up with B80, Roof Drip moulding. Last edited by Gene; 08-15-2010 at 06:30 PM. |

Re: Stainless Drip Rail?
Well, went to the yard today and got the drip rail molding and a set of chrome vent windows all for 20 bucks, trim is in better shape then I remember and i'm 99% sure they were factory installed. Just one little bent spot at the bottom on pass. side that I bent back with my fingers.

Thought I'd add the following pics of a 69 K20 listed on ebay with drip rail molding. May not be OEM but affords another example...

Re: Stainless Drip Rail?
Very old thread but when I ran across this in the assembly manual it made me start digging for this thread. Always found it interesting.
I always wondered if any escaped the factory before they stamped CANCELLED on the project. |

Re: Stainless Drip Rail?
Golden State Pickup parts either reproduced it or sold N.O.S. I bought a few sets from them. I always thought it was an accessory, not an option, but never looked for an RPO code. It may have been a dealer installed factory option, truck came with trim in the cab

Re: Stainless Drip Rail?
I added the stainless steel drip trim to my 72 Super. They fit well and no issues 15 years later.

Re: Stainless Drip Rail?
When I bought my truck in 1992, I didn’t have much spare money, so I went to every Salvage yard in what ever area I lived (I was in the Army so we lived in numerous places, all around the South).
When it came to “Parts I was looking for”, the SS Driprail trim was the proverbial “Golden Unicorn”, along with finding a Factory Tach Dash. I found the tach dash, but never the Trim. I was going to order it from a Vendor, but after reading all the comments about the fitting issues, I decided to not do it. I think it would be unique to have it, along with the SS Door Edge protectors, just for some “Factory Bling”. Maybe one day if I was to happen upon a set |

Re: Stainless Drip Rail?
I dug through some of the dealer and parts books communications and found that the "Aug 68 for 1969 vehicle year dealer Communications package" shows the CST trim package included the "distinctive......bright roof-drip cap moldings" along with the other CST upgrades.
The salesman's review booklet that came in the Communication package showed a picture of a truck with the molding installed. The "1969 salesman's custom feature accessories data catalog" did not list this molding as one of their many accessories for the model year. Whether or not these trucks ever made it out of the factory, the books show the CST was supposed to include it in their package. My guess was that there would be no RPO found for this trim since it was supposed to be included in the 1969 CST package. Also, since it was not in their accessories book, we may no find it as a "dealer" installed item either but there is still hope someone has a receipt. As noted by Gene above, RPO is supposed to be B80 but has it been seen on a SPID??? Last edited by CKfan; 11-18-2023 at 01:17 PM. Reason: Add sentences, spell |
