Thumbs down Whats with the Guys at the Junk Yard

Drove about 40 minutes to the bone yard where I new they have a few 67-72's. I was looking for a few things, well I found a booster and master cylinder mounted up to all the parts I needed (bracket and what not). They guys said he wanted $70 for it and wouldnt sell just the bracket. Well if you saw the master cylinder and booster you'd understand why I was so peeved. No lid on the cylinder or fluid in it, a big dent in the booster and no hood on the truck. After I explained you can get a new one for $90 he just so "uhh yeah, hmm" and walked away. So now I'm in the market for a bracket and other parts (P/B parts wanted on Parts Board) from anyone who isnt trying to rip an honest guy off. I have a few misc parts I could trade as well. Thanks for the help
BTW the name of the junk yard that I'll never spend another dime at is Rudys Truck parts, in Suffolk, VA

I can see them wanting to sell things complete but I see that type of attitude around here more and more where they want an outrageous price for something. I think they are trying to nail people that need the part right then and now. I know I would buy more parts and even spare parts if they would charge realistic prices instead of 10 or 20 dollars less then new.

One other thing that I think is worth noting. I ran into this when I was swapping from a small block to a big block on my truck. Don't believe the people at the junk yard when they ask say "oh that'll fit no problem". In my case, it was a power steering bracket. Wrong. I knew what the bracket looked like, and knew better than to believe that dude. He's just looking to sell you something at an inflated price.

Some of the guys that specialize in 67-72 parts aren't any better. A buddy of mine needed a clutch push rod (the one goes through the firewall). One of the local truck parts dealers says "oh yeah, those are EXTREMELY hard to find. I've been to all the salvage yards across Oklahoma, and you can't find them anymore." He wanted $50 for it. I found not one, but 5 of those bad boys at a local salvage. They only wanted $10 for one.

Long story short, do some research on whatever it is you're looking for and try to know how much it's worth.

lol a clutch pushrod form one of us is free plus postage lol, those are common as heck since ppl are swapping out manual for auto all the time hehe, im one of those packrats that saves all that type of stuff and stashes it away so that if they ever were rare, ill have some hehe

i always wondered about ppl who have a noun in their name, sometimes two !

(CAR!!!)

There you go. Even when I thought $10 was a reasonable price the dude at the salvage still was trying to hose me. (BTW - I didn't buy it anyway - I was able to reinforce the old one and make it work.)

Sorry about interrupting your "feud", longhornmail and Fast68Chevy.

I guess these guys in the bone yards down here in southern arkansas haven't caught on to these schemes yet. I bought two chrome division bars with vent window for $10 each. I thought was a deal.

Then again some people are a little slower down here too.LOL

Well you have to figure how often some one is going to come around and buy some of the parts they have laying around. Most of the stuff they have in a Junk yard is just that; Junk, but the guys seem to think they're sitting on a gold mine. Sure sometimes you can find some good stuff, but it all depends on how much they want to sell it for.

Look on the bright side at least you didn't get your battery stolen out of your truck the last time you went to the junkyard!
