16.5" tires for C20s

Found a nice looking 16.5" blackwall truck tire for thopse ol C20s that have 16.5 wheels (awesome, now that I just bought my last 16" wheel to complete the set I've been hunting for for a month... ) Anyway, thought you might like these if you have original 16.5" wheels and have had a hard time finding nice tires - have heard quite a few folks in this boat. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FIT-189-820/

Here is what they look like on a truck (again, that gorgeous 71 C20 I saw at Brothers had them, and they look "just right" - also note the exceptional job on the custom aux fuel tank door - it looked so factory it was uncanny. Super nice job. I stared for 20 minutes...

$871.80 OUCH, That is more than 1/2 of what I paid for my truck.

Re: 16.5" tires for C20s

yep, but that's what they go for nowadays. It's $800 every time i stick a new set of BFG All Terrains on my 2001 chev too. BFG T/A's, on the other hand, are about the only reasonably priced brand named tires left it seems (for a hot rod with 15" tires, that is) - but not the case for 16" or larger truck tires... I agree, ouch.

But, the whole point is that it's cheaper than spending $871 on tires in 16" PLUS the cost and pain in the butt of finding 4 or 5 16" 8 lug rims. Some folks have been changing to 16" rims due to tire scarcity. Including me, but if you REALLY wanted 16.5's, at least there's an option, and they look nice!

Re: 16.5" tires for C20s

well, never mind then, I guess 16.5" tires are just coming out of our ears then...
where were you all when everyone was saying there were no 16.5" tires on the planet! (and before I bought 16" rims...)

EDIT 1: Can you post a link firstowner, I'm not seeing any 16.5" tires at tire rack, but I may be searching wrong(ly).

EDIT 2! Nope, I found em - good call! $697 for a set of 4! Thanks!

Not coming out our ears. The only ones at Tire Rack are the same Firestone Transforces. All I ever read on the forum was that there was very little to select from.

Do a search by size, select the width, then "none" for aspect ratio and 16.5 for diameter.

9.50s: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...&diameter=16.5

8.75s: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...&diameter=16.5

I see you found them as I was digging up those darn links for ya'.

Re: 16.5" tires for C20s

Good for Firestone! That's a good looking tire. I Googled "Firestone Transforce HT" and came up with a Tire Rack listing that does show they offer 8.75s as well. But,it's the 9.50s that are best looking on a C/20. I only wish they offered a 12.50/33 for the rear. Or,better yet, something in between like an 11/32. It's been years since there's been a size between. All the 12.50/33s are all terrains with bolder edges on the tread. I'd like the more rounded street tire look of these all seasons. I have an itch for a C/20 and if I get one I have a set of 9.75/8.25 steelies ready and waiting.

Most of the local tire shops will offer or locate the size for you. Sometimes they can be a little pricey. Discount Tire use to offer this size, Kirkland at COSTCO has discontinued this size all together. If I were to go buy some of this size today, I would make sure the year date is current and the tires are not old, tires dryrot to fast here in California. If you find any please let us know. I would like to save and reuse my 16.5 rims.

Isn't this thread about telling us these Firestones are available?
