How much notch are you talking? A full length sump dragster type pan or just a Chevelle style pan with the secondary ridge?

The Milodon dry sump on our dragster is deeper than the crossmember and the distance from the pan rail to the crossmember on my stepside with the big block. You would be cutting the stock crossmember in half and having to add depth under the pan so you would end up losing a bunch of ground clearance.

You would be better off building a tubular crossmember to fit around the pan and dry sump lines that will give you the strength you need and maintain good ground clearance.

The easy way out would be to run a high capacity wet sump pan instead.
