Driving to work this morning.....

Being a teacher and having all summer off I finally had to go back to school today. Turn the key, let the fuel pump run for a second then fire up the V8, hit some switches to get off the ground, and aim for school. Cruising to school in overdrive blowing past cars 40 years newer I round the corner and the biggest, orangish, sun (pic does it 0 justice) hits the hood and lights up what little paint I have on it. I was instantly reminded how much I love this truck and how on even the worst days (like actually going to work) things can't be that bad. I love everything from the dash to way the ribs in the steering wheel perfectly fit my hand. Love the curved windshield and the wide view it offers. Love looking over the hood and seeing that V (especially with mine painted). Everything about the character of this truck is great. Even down to crappy pencils that are still on the dash from the previous owner who last had it on the road in 1979 makes this truck even cooler to me.

Just really glad I've got the opportunity to own and build such a kickass truck. I hope some of you also got to enjoy your trucks this morning as well.

I never had a teacher that drove a cool truck.And I love Ohio in the summer time ,I only get to visit once a year for a Chevelle show/family reunion ,all the car guys and gals have become family.

No but it does have a pencil sharpener right by my head on the B pillar still. The guy used the truck as a work vehicle and wrote estimates in pencil apparently. I felt it needed to stay. Lol

Ohio seems to be hit or miss. Lately we seem to get a lot of rain in the summer which isn't fun. Where is the show you go to?

Haha. Maybe but I'm a health and phys ed teacher so I'm the idiot of the school. But we go fishing and do archery so as far as I'm concerned I've got the best job. I'm going to talk to my principals tomorrow about possibly starting a car club/auto club for kids who are interested in cars. Thinking about trying to do some back to school car inspections for kids after school. Check fluids, tire pressures, brakes etc.

I like you insight on things, glad you enjoy your truck, had an offer on mine the other day, thought about it then drove it, no sale. Just enjoy the old trucks. Good idea with teaching the kids anything automotive.

Ha! Sounds like a nice way to spend a work day. Great idea about getting the students involved. I think it's important to get and keep them interested in the classics. Car inspections, on any kind of car, are a great way to do that!

The Chevelle Show I go to is in Strongsville every year at the Holiday Inn hosted by the Northern Ohio Chevelle Club and their charity is Toys For Tots /Marine Corps .It was really nice there this year with temps in the 80's and low humidity and 200 Chevelle's .

I am originally from NW Ohio, just visited in June for a week and I can attest to the rain being relentless there then. I feel the same about driving my truck, dont care where I go or how far, just love driving it.

Love it... I would drive my truck everywhere but I would get to many door dings and I am always scared of coming back out from where ever I am and it not being there. I picked up my son from school with the truck yesterday and I think I will drive him to school in it today.

I'm with you.
I only got to start driving mine regularly in the last couple weeks after putting it together over the last year. I find it quite amusing that a 49 year old truck with a leaky old 292 and granny 4 speed gives me so much pleasure. I'd been driving a 2003 Dodge with a 340 HP Hemi and power everything while I was building the C10 and just sold it. I know I'll never miss the Dodge but I was away with the family over the weekend and was truly excited to get home to my truck....

Only looks to be about 98 or so

Taking pictures while going 100+ isn't scary if
a) your under 50 and can operate a phone while doing other things (not a knock on anyone, just sorta the truth).
b) your suspension and tires are solid
c) there is no traffic

Besides, anywhere outside of big metro cities, the average hwy speed folks actually drive is around 85.

No my speedo is about 20ish miles an hour off. I was probably doing around 80 with nobody next to me on a freshly paved highway.... I hate when I'm driving and see people on their phone. Had to be a hypocrite and snap this pic quickly. I just wish it gave it justice to how gigantic the sun was that morning.

I have included in my posts that I work in the corporate world and par in a sea of luxo barges etc. Today I went out at lunch to gas up and walked out to this scene. I am the first one in the lot. All the rest of the cars in my row are black. The lady with the large Benz next to me busts my stones all the time about being able to afford a new car!

I'm a teacher as well. The kids are in awe when I bring one of my classic rides to school. They are very respectful, and I never worry about damage when in the parking lot.
