Help with an Inline 6?

Hey guys, I got a quick question. I just pulled this inline 6 out of my blazer and the guy that I bought it from said the motor and trans were out of a 67 or 68 C10. Anyway I was just wanting to get some feedback on what would be a fair price on this? If I should just scrap it? Looks to be in decent shape.

Re: Help with an Inline 6?

What a shame using a four letter word like that "scrap" that word is like nails on a chalk board lol. it all depends are you looking to get a core price or a running price because a core in my area starts at about 100 dollars and a running motor runs about 250 to 500 depending on condition with the transmission it would be around 500 or 600 but that is if you find a buyer at that price me I'm cheep I try to buy at 250 or less but that is me lol hope that helps

Re: Help with an Inline 6?

Believe me I don't like the word scrap either. The motor looks to be pretty good. Here is a pic of the other side of the motor. In my local ads someone is selling a trans like this that looks a little cleaner for $90 by itself. So I thought I would ask the experts, that would be everyone on this board.

Re: Help with an Inline 6?

Offhand, it looks like a 250 L6 with an Sm420 trans. That would make it a '67. Paint color is right for '67 or '68, if original.
A junkyard here in Tucson wants $200 for a 292 core. Jeep guys are nuts for 420s because they are shorter than the 465s. The way to tell a 420 from a 465 [besides the case length] is the reverse is pulled back and to the left. On a 465, the reverse pulls back and to the right.
Bellhousing looks strange -- like it's aluminum, not cast iron.
What are the "dress numbers", the stamped digits behind the distributor? They can be decoded to tell you the plant it was made at, the date-- by month and day, and 2 or 3 code letters indicating engine size and year.

The alum. bell housing & that type engine mounts are 73 up. The mono-jet carb is 68 up. The point type dist is 74 on back.

Re: Help with an Inline 6?

Hey Thanks guys for the help. I was notified that a "what's it worth", isn't allowed until I pay the $25 bucks for the year. I apologize for the error. I decided to list the combo in my local ads for $200 bucks or trade for a vw motor. BUt I do really appreciate the help.
