64 body on a 72 frame?
So I have a 72 frame with power disc and power steering and has a 305 and th350 ready to roll. I was wondering if my 64 body will fit on there? I plan to fab the front horns for the 64 and swap the radiator.
I also plan to run a 72 column since its collapsable. Will this work? |

Re: 64 body on a 72 frame?
It would less work for you to swap the parts from the 72 to your 64, also the VIN number on the frame would match the cab.

Re: 64 body on a 72 frame?
Swapping the steering box and everything would be less work?
I'm not to concerned about numbers matching since this was a field find. Both trucks are not numbers matching. And it will sonmmeday soon become ls swap. So the body won't bolt in Directly? |

Re: 64 body on a 72 frame?
Differences:
Front frame horns Radiator core support Radiator core support mount locations Rear cab mount locations I would swap the front suspension stuff over before swapping the bodys. Lots more work w/a body swap....

Move the goodies from the 72 to your 64 frame.

Re: 64 body on a 72 frame?
i was trying to avoid that. it wouldve been much simplier if the body couldve been laid on the 72 frame. now im more inclined to spend money.... ha

Re: 64 body on a 72 frame?
The suspension stuff is bolt-in swap friendly. The body swap will require grafting frame horns, relocating mounts, or alot of fudging/spacers to make it work. I would not recommend spacers or fudging things.....

If you don't think you're going to have VIN issues, and you know from experience, do what you think will be easier.

Re: 64 body on a 72 frame?
Unless the original frame is seriously damaged and beyond repair, it is always advisable to keep the original frame. There is no advantage to a '72 frame over a '64 other than the disc brakes, power steering and 5 lug differential. All of which can be transferred to the '64 frame quite easily.
