Should I stand here or run.

A buddy called and told me about a truck deal he had found but he didn't have time for. I am more at home with 72 and older so I need some help. It is a 1978 short, fleet bed. It looks to have been painted in the last 2 or 3 years and I think they must have put new bedsides on because they are rust free and can't find any filler at all. Rockers and cab corners are good. The only thing that is rusty is the hood and it is bad. It has a 350 engine with a rod hanging out the left front side of block. It has a turbo 350 trans that fluid is not pink but ain't brown or smell burnt. It has tilt wheel. The wheels and tires are odd and ends that just keep it off the ground. It has duel exhaust wit the big chrome tips with left side hanging low from broke hanger. It is the Bonanza trim package. It is a non a/c from factory. Inside is about average for age of truck. Why am I even looking at this thing? When I looked at the sticker inside the glovebox door It was a I-6 250ci. with a 3 speed on the tree, no tilt. (sticker under hood was also 250ci. I-6) I have walked away from this thing 3 times but have gone back to take another look. I have everything needed to make it a sharp kids ride here. So how much is it worth. I need to tell them something by Friday. Thanks.

Re: Should I stand here or run.

Thanks guys. That was the ball park I was thinking. He started out at $1500 and was at $1200 last rumor I heard. 3 or 4 of us lurking at this time will see what happens.

Re: Should I stand here or run.

I got an '80 swb that ran w/ no rust, working AC, with a I6 for $500 I would have a hard time paying that for a truck with a bad engine and tranny. These trucks are cheap in this condition.
