Hello from Pittsburgh, PA

Hello all. My name is Tom. I'm new to this forum, but not new to Internet forums in general. Earlier this year, I acquired a 1969 Chevy C30 Rollback Tow Truck. It was an eBay find. There is a long story that goes along with this truck, including how I got, where I got it, and how I got it home. But to make it short, I bought it from the west coast, drove it back to PA, restored the cab in a "Cooter's Tow Truck" motif, and now use it to haul my General Lee replica (and other cars as needed). Obviously the truck was restored once before, and at that time, it was painted red, and a modern rollback flatbed was attached to the chassis. The work was done very professionally and with lots of attention to detail. Since then, the truck changed hands a few times... and it needed some TLC after I received it. The red paint was shot, the cab had some rust holes looming under the paint, and there was lots of bondo to be dug out and replaced with sheet metal.

This is an awesome truck. And I've fallen in love with the Chevy 67-72 C-truck line.

Now that the exterior work is done, it's time to move on to mechanical. Since the engine is tired in this truck (non-original 2-bolt 350ci, with a 2-bbl carb, TH400 transmission), I am going to be swapping in a modern fuel injected Chevy LT1 iron-head engine (from a Caprice 9C1 donor that I have). This is going to be a fun swap, and I think it will provide quite a bit more torque than this tired 2bbl 350 that is in there now. I've seen others swap LT1s into their C10 trucks. Not sure if anyone has tried it with a C30. And I'll be posting some questions about some of the ideas I have. My specialty is electrical, so I'm not worried about that aspect of the swap. My biggest concern is going to be some of the mechanical challenges.

Well, that's all for now. See you later!
