TBI in a 67
Hey guys I'm fixing to try to tackle something that I have no idea how to do. I pulled the 283 4speed out of my 67 shortbed today and am going to try to put a TBI 4.3L 5speed out of a 1988 to 1993 chevy pickup. Has anyone tried this or know how bad the wiring is going to be? Any comments pointers or suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks Derek

Re: TBI in a 67
If you are pulling everything out of the truck then it should be a simple task.
Things to check for. Fuel tank will need a return line with electric fuel pump. Stock tank doesn't have this. Will need to have resister wire took out of the electrical system for cranking. You will need extra senor's for the oil, temp to hook up to the gauges. The computer will need the ones that are in the block now. Depending on the transmission you will need a convertor to the old speedo.

read this http://www.painlessperformance.com/M...Supplement.pdf
It is an after market loom for that engine. It will tell what sensors are needed and where. Should help figure everything out. |

Re: TBI in a 67
A 4.3 is still a small block just 2 less cylinders, strong runner ,easier to get parts together than a straight 6

You might pick up some info from member shifty. His build is with a different engine but it may help you determine what pitfalls to avoid.Look him up in the members list,he has the info listed in his siggy.

Re: TBI in a 67
From the electrical side of things, it should be easy. There's a few of us running TBI on V8's. The fuel system isn't too big of a deal either, you just have to run a return line.
The more parts you can get off the donor, the better. Try to get ALL the engine wiring and whatever runs to the computer. Grab the voltage distribution block and all the relays off the firewall too. Also get all the fuel line you can, it's easier to toss stuff later if you don't need it than it is to go find some unique fitting or bracket.
