sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

Just put on the brackets - first pic is how they are straight across - the two inner ones are closer to the truck

Re: sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

The inner ones will not flip over as the bent out part clears the bed bolt
and the holes do not line up to any other set of holes.

Re: sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

Lastly, you can see how the ends that should be "verticle" are angled the wrong way so they will not be plumb with a perfectly verticle bumper (which is the way my new one is)

I cannot flip the inners over and switch sides as the bent up piece (to clear the bed bolt in the previous pic) will hit the bottom of the frame rail before the bolt holes can line up.

Any suggestions? Thanks all.

Re: sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

You can't lay the brackets against the bottom lip of the frame and redrill the holes in the frame to line up? That's what I would suggest doing.

Re: sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

I was thinking that all the holes are there, so there has to be a way they are supposed to work - thought about drilling but that's the last resort (short of welding) - Does everyone that puts on a sports bumper have to drill their frames??? And still - look at the angle of the inner brackets - they angle the wrong way... somethings not right, but what?

Re: sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

Is it possible you have the outer brackets on wrong? Maybe turned around? How much movement is there on the inners when the bolts are loose?

This may or may not help. Do the outer brackets have a small hole on the top side for the pan to bolt to?

Re: sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

ok - rivet holes are up - is it possible the outter bracket bolts through the funky shaped hole made by the inner bracket and the frame (up to the right a bit in the 2nd pic)?
Then, it still doesn't solve the incorrect angle of the brackets (pitched down) - sorry gang but I'm just not getting this for some reason....

Its dark outside, and I was just (literally) stabbing in the dark, but this is placement on my truck. The Reciever hitch kinda gets in the way. I'll get more tomorrow if you still ned them. Mine do seem like they pitch downhill though. Have you tried test fitting bumper up there?

Re: sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

I haven't tried to fit it yet - the inners are about 3" closer to the truck than the outters so it seems like a mute point at the moment. Thanks for taking those - between your and uncles, I feel I'm on the right track but..... I wonder if I received a set of front brackets instead of rear outters? - they do look like the rear outters....... then again, my outters have the rivet holes in them....

I thing I noticed different in your pocs vs mine is that my inner bumper bracket has 2 bolts near the end and you have only 1. Do you not both in, or is it possible not in the right place?

Re: sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

I see what you have there... I do have another hole in the bracket but there are no two holes that would line up for me to put in two bolts... If you look at the very last pic I posted, you can see there are no other holes that would line up - and two pic before that, you can see the holes in the inner bracket are not near any other holes. I appreciate your time with this...

Re: sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

I went out and got some more, and I believe they are the wrong bracket. Your outers look a little different than mine. My may be different because of the auxiliary springs, but I'm not sure.

Re: sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

Those first two pics of yours look like they've been cut down - almost like (God forbid) if you hit something, that bracket will just bend over - the last one looks like the two of mine though. Gotta call it quits for the night, bedtime early to rise and all that other stuff - work is seriously cutting into my personal and social life.... thanks for your time man and don't go back out tonight - I'll start this up again in the morning..

Re: sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

Hold the bumper up and see if the holes in the bumper line up with the brackets, I think you have the brackets switched, left to right. The end you have bolted to the frame is bolted to the bumper on my truck.

I believe you might be right Chris. The hole that bolts to the topside of the bumper looks too close to the truck in the pic below.

Re: sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

NOW I SEE IT! Geesch - must've had a brain bubble - I'm pretty sure I flipped 'em end for end but that hole is indeed in the wrong spot. I did measure the distance from each hole and they do line up with my new bumper. I'll give it a shot tonight and see what happens - THANKS GUYS!

If that doesn't do it, try bolting the brackets to the bumper, then mount the bumper to the frame.

Re: sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

These are the correct holes from the outside of the frame.

The angles may look goofy, but put the bumper on, that's how they're supposed to be.

You are correct, the inner ones are notched to clear the bed bolts. Your set up looks correct to me, except you have the wrong part of the outer bracket bolted to the frame. That end gets bolted to the bumper.

Which means I think you'll need to reverse them, and then switch sides. The downward angle needs to match the angle of the inner bracket, that should still keep the bolt hole at the top for the rock guard.

yep - I think that is it - I swear I tried flipping/switching the outters... but I will again for sure.... that one is definately on incorrectly as pointed out, the rivet hole is under the bed.

Re: sport bump brackets wrong? UGH! Any help?

Didn't get out to the truck until after 10 last night and that was enough for me - no lights so I had to do it by flashlight- YOU GUYS GOT IT, I turned them over and flipped end for end and sure enough, the best I could tell in the dark, that should do it! THANK YOU guys!

Should have pics in another day or two (have to get bolts for the bumper yet)
