Under Dash Mount ?????

Does anyone know where or if I can buy a under dash mounting bracket for the new radios that are available now ? My 74 truck has a non working AM radio in it now and I want to leave it there and put a new style one under the dash .I already have the radio and speakers but cant find anywhere locally that selle a mounting kit for under the dash. When I asked at best buy and Walmart and the Auto Parts stores they acted like I was speaking a foreign language .They had never heard of anyone mounting any kind of radio under the dash ,they were also very young .
Any help would be much appreciated .
John

Re: Under Dash Mount ?????

Schoshe is what I ordered and will work perfect for the Chevelle but not for my 74 truck. I will use the other on in my BuddyBucket console in my 72 truck one day .Thanks for the link though as I might find something else that will work.

Check for marine/boat shops online. A lot of them sell standard and waterproof ones, in case you like to drive with the window down.

Re: Under Dash Mount ?????

Have not bought one yet but am looking at using a marine encloseure under dash mount for my '71 4x4. Google --Poly-Planar WC-400-- I have an original truck am/fm radio I picked up at a swap meet two years ago. When I installed it I put in a "splitter" for the fender antenna with the intentions of installing an under dash Sanyo FXCD-550 AM/FM/cassette/CD using the afore mentioned under dash mount. Comes in black poly or white poly with a water proof flip front. Not sure if will mount to the trans hump or under the heater controls. May be something you would want to look at.

Re: Under Dash Mount ?????

Bringing this back up as finally got my underdash install finished. As mentioned used a Poly-Planar 400 marine stereo enclosure. Got it off the dreaded Ebay, used the cab corner speaker mounts from board member "bigblock73 / Jeff " , great product if the in-cab tank is no longer in the cab. Hung mine under the bed. Pioneer 150w 6"x9" tri-axials @ corners, Polk 5 1/4" 100w dual cone under the dash. Head unit is a Sanyo FXCD-500 am/fm/cd/cassette also off Ebay. Rated at 200 watts, 50 watts per channel with removable faceplate. Dual split antenna, can run the original truck am/fm and the Sanyo radio at the same time if wanted. Had to move the mount point to the right as the transfer lever would not let me mount it under the heater controls as planned. All in all pretty satisfied and sounds good.

Re: Under Dash Mount ?????

Thanks for the pic ,Ironhorse , I need some tunes in my 74 stepper daily driver and that mount will work with it .The one I bought for the vert worked good but would not work in the truck . Now I need to check and see how much one of those is.

Re: Under Dash Mount ?????

John, when I bought my stereo mount I was lucky and found it for $20 plus shipping. Usually see them for the $60-$70 range. It is white which I did not want, preferred black, but for the price I figured I could buy some Krylon and dye it. Worked pretty well other than couple places I need to touch up where I scratched it during the mount process. Good luck with it.
