Need help choosing drop options

Hey all.. Just picked up a clean 86 silverado long bed. Looking to lower this thing.. I've read a ton of threads and still can't decide what my best option is. Looking to possibly go 3/5 on the stock 15x8 rally's for now then eventually going with 18's. I'm not really wanting to go any lower because as I've heard, I'd have to notch the frame..I still have to use the truck to haul from time to time.

What is the best option here? I had heard that the spindles could rub the rallies??

Front: I was thinking maybe 2.5 drop spindles but didn't know way to do for springs..

Rear: flip kit..?

Will those options get me a 3/5?
If so what vendor/products should I use.

Drop spindles are certainly going to cause your rally's to rub the control arms. You can trim the gutters on the arms if you choose to add clearance. As an option, narrower van rally's help a lot with the clearance if you want a bit skinnier wheel in the front but still exactly match the rear rally wheels.

Another option is to run a 3 inch drop spring in the front. It's been my experience though that aftermarket 3 inch drop springs ride pretty poorly. The 2 inch ones ride real nice, but not the threes.

That's what I was just reading about the 3" drop springs.. I'm thinking of maybe going that route for now. Any idea who makes the best 3" drop spring? I was looking at DJM

If it were me...

Front
Western Chassis 2.5 spindles with 1/2 coil cut on the stock spring...or get a 1" drop spring, drop shocks

Rear
Western Chassis flip kit, drop shocks

If you use spindles, you're gonna have to grind the control arms with an 8 inch rally wheel.

If you want to use 3 inch drop springs, here are about the cheapest option out there. They are Ground Force springs sold in a generic box with Summits logo on it.

Okay so I may just go with the 2.5 drop spindle.. cut a bit off the factory spring and the rear flip kit in the rear.. if I have to do some shaving of the spindle..where am I shaving this from? Is it much and will it affect the spindles strength? This wouldn;t be a big deal if I could afford some 18's or 20's right away

so any drop spindle... say a Mcgaughy's 2.5", will rub a stock 8" rally wheel without grinding some clearance out of the control arms?
if so, what do you have to do, get a different backspaced wheel or something?

You install the spindles and the wheels. Then turn the wheels lock to lock and you'll see where it hits the lower control arm gutters. Trim the control arm flanges until they clear when turned lock to lock. It's not a big deal really. Just takes a few minutes.

about what size wheels are needed so you don't have to grind anything down? just curious...
