Repurposed 67-72 truck parts used in your 67-72

Seems odd I need to be so specific but I see a lot of threads lately that end up with a whole lot of non 67-72 trucks in this area of the board.

What piece of our trucks have you repurposed for another area of our trucks? I can only think of glove box doors being used for gauge panels and wheel wells being turned upside down for spare tire use.

Anything else cool you’ve come up with?

The most obvious to me is using a windshield fluid reservoir and mount as a coolant overflow tank.

I just can't come up with anything right now. I'm sure there are some to tell.

My friend who bought my K/20 Highlander had a set of original 16" wheels made onto 17 x 9s for that truck.

For my '67 project I have a custom horn button. I bought it, didn't make it. I am using a '67 car steering wheel. This 67/68 GMC Super Custom horn button insert was modified to fit in the car horn button.

Don't people use radio deletes to install post stereos?

I used a rocker panel for the bottom of a door. Thicker metal than the patch panel made and usually cheaper.

I have also used a rocker panel for the area under a tool box door as it has the same shape as that area.

I have a bunch of large chunks of old bedsides, doors, etc that Im keeping for patch panels. More than likely Ill never need, but they store flat and I can keep them in a smallish area.

Seems like someone took pieces, or just the bottom of a glove box door and mounted it under the heater controls for an aftermarket gauge panel.

Tim ... Remember the undeleted radio delete plate I gave away as a prize on the board a little while back? I think it was actually a pretty good idea by whomever did it.

I don't know if this counts, but I repurposed two sets of 71-72 bench seat sliders into bucket seat sliders. The only modification I made was cutting off about a 1/2 inch from
the rear of the top curved bracket and re-drilling the holes to mount a piece of angle iron to bolt the seat to. I don't have pics but I can take some if anyone is interested.

I cut the top curved sections of scrap front fenders to repair the front fender cups ,Also the section of the front fenders where the hood hinges mount that have the welded nuts to repair hoods where they have been cracked / rusted mounts .

I had a door to replace the passengers door on the Panel Truck when I wrecked it. No patch panels for the quarter so I used a pickup door skin to fix that. Fit like it was made for it.....

Good eye on that. Someone made that door skin just for your Panel's quarter.


I love what this person did. Just a fun machine you could build from a crapped out C/10. Shorten frame, a cut here, a weld there, and you have an El Cheapo hop over the side 2wd Cruiser Blazer. I want to built one!

So casual... (to steal a phrase from the '70s)

I don't even like bed covers, other than tonneaus, but I always thought it would be a cool custom truck thing to use a hood or many hoods to fabricate a matching bed cover. It would seam along the bedside same as in the front fender and the top of the tailgate. Maybe just the back half would open.like a trunk. Somebody tell one of those rich TV show truck builders so we can see it done.

I used an aftermarket steering wheel and horn button. The original wheel is a wall hanger the hen button is the volume knob on my garage radio. Hes I still use a receiver with speakers and a cd player.

Not sure if this counts but I am repurposing a set of Bronco bucket seats for my 68 . They need new mounting frame but there going to be a great seat.

Kind of outside the scope of the thread. But I needed a small couch for my man cave so I back halfed a Ford explorer sport box. Wired it up with a 12 volt converter and LED bulbs. A friend sewed up a cushion for it.

I have some '67 bedsides that I am considering doing the same thing to.

I think the cut the ass off a car or truck to make an uncomfortable couch thing is played out. Or I hope it is. First one or two I thought were pretty neat, creative. But now it's monkey see monkey do. I like to see old parts repurposed in use on a vehicle.

Not just that post, but I sure do find it odd that even though CG was very specific, and even commented on that, if you read his post, we still have more of what he didn't want than what he did.

Let's get back to "67-72 parts repurposed on 67-72s", ok?

Well I bought a 69 C/20 in college to repurpose parts for my C/10 build she came with a 4 speed and an oil bath 2bbl 350 well I mostly just reused the 350 block, the no tilt manual steering column, the gear stick, the high hump, and some odds and ends here and there but other than that the rest of the C/20 will be living on as my buddy's C/10 or K/10 build he hasn't decided yet. I had also purchased a 1967 small window former buddy bucket A/C cab from Colorado used the cab but that firewall and dash wouldn't do nor would the floor so I cut up the firewall and installed the proper non A/C firewall components and ditched that A/C dash for the non A/C dash out of my C/10 but don't worry that A/C dash lives on in a K/5 Blazer somewhere

Before you could purchase Suburban quarter panels I used two rocker panels, a Blazer quarter patch, part of a door skin and a long fleet bedside wheel well arch to fix the rust in a burb.

30 or so years ago I used a Longhorn frame with 1/2 ton axles, a 71 GMC cab and nose, a Burb roof, cut the cab off behind the doors and moved the rear portion back to fit up to the bed then used the sides out of a panel truck all combined into an Extended cab truck.

I've had a '69 T-Bird electric bucket back/bench bottom in my '68 C/10 since 1977. I have used my OEM 516 Orange Radio Delete Plate for a radio bezel. I painted it over in krinkle black.
And I've used a sunshade clip for a Coat Hook on the passenger side of my Stepside cab.
