73 GMC Parts Worth Getting?

I ran across a 3/4 ton 2wd GMC at the junk yard and noticed a few intersting parts and I'm wondering if they are worth grabbing. Sorry, no pics.
Custom fender badges
Tool stowage box...lid needs some work
Steel hubcaps
8 lug wheels
I will be grabbing the grille brackets.
Thanks in advance,
Ray

If its a bedside tool box, I'd be interested in purchasing it from you pending its overall condition.

Yes, but unlike the 67-72, this one is on the drivers side. The box looks to be in good shape.

Well, if you can get it for cheap, and want a fair price to re-sell, count me in please.

I wonder if I could cut the bed around the box for a patch panel. Better bring the thin blade with me!

That would be ideal, so there is something to weld to if needed.

That's what I was thinking. Even that dash emblem is worth nabbing...no repro. I collect that stuff. I'm sure others do. What color seat belts? Did it have the painted below eyeline mirrors?

Re: 73 GMC Parts Worth Getting?

I hope all is still there on Tuesday when I make it back. I just found out about this yard a couple of days ago and when I went through the gate for the first time I said "I hit the Mother Lode!"
There's about a dozen square bodies ripe for the picking.

Re: 73 GMC Parts Worth Getting?

Well, I made it back to the junk yard and didn't have much time because I helped a buddy pull the interior out of a 63 T Bird. There's some neat old metal in this yard...T Birds, Galaxie 500, 68 El dorado, Imperials, 68 El Camino, and others. I did pull the tool stowage box and I'll have to come back for the rest later. The dash emblem is a GMC Custom, forgot to look at the mirrors, and the engine is missing the pulleys and externals.
Here's some pics of the box...its in need of some work, but this is only the 2nd one I've ever seen.

Re: 73 GMC Parts Worth Getting?

If the Imperials are from the 60s or older get anything off them that looks good. Some people love those cars and the aftermarket on them is slim to none.

Re: 73 GMC Parts Worth Getting?

Ray, You should get some good money out of that tool box! As you know I do parts and haven't came across one yet. I did find two local trucks that are still on the road that have them. Best thing I have came up with lately is the glide out spare tire carrier.

Re: 73 GMC Parts Worth Getting?

I have only run across one glide out in my travels and it sold fast here on the board a couple of years ago. I'm waiting to see what they are going to do with the Imperials. They might sell them whole as running builders. The headlight helmets on them are really cool! Its fun to see cars that are not made out of plastic.

Re: 73 GMC Parts Worth Getting?

Ray, sent you a PM.

The box is indeed a hard to find part, but I wouldn't put them in the same category as the 67-72 boxes thats for sure.

I would LOVE the opportunity to own it, and post it on 73-87.com for others to enjoy, but its going to come down to price.

Re: 73 GMC Parts Worth Getting?

I'm glad its going to a good home. On this one, its not about the money. Its about saving this rare part for someone who can restore it. I have a feeling that if I didn't pull it, it would have been crushed. Well, I need to get back there and pull the tilt column out of a motorhome and maybe a few rear sway bars!

Yeah save what you can it will help someone out with a part they need that's not remade yet.Plus the oem stuff fits better then most aftermarket stuff does.

Bob, Here's pics of the setup that I think you need. There's a 78 Jimmy with the same setup in the junk yard. Let me know if I can pull these parts for you...Thanks for the link on the spring hangers!

Re: 73 GMC Parts Worth Getting?

Bob, I will charge up my batteries and pull those parts. LWP always has the alternator on the passenger side. You need the 2wd trans to crossmember bolts?
I will be pulling the dual exhaust trans crossmember also as many guys like to convert their exhaust from single to dual. Most mid 70 and newer trucks have the single setup.
Are the factory 2nd row seats in the Blazers worth getting?

Re: 73 GMC Parts Worth Getting?

Since it looks like your in California I'd be on the lookout for rust free blazer tailgate stuff if I were you. I have the hardest time finding good rust free parts and when I do it's usually a truck out of Cali.
Anyway, thanks for the inspiration. These kind of threads always make me get off my butt and go see if there's any new treasures at the junkyard.
BTW: Kudos to you on saving some of this stuff from the crusher! There's some parts that the aftermarket will never be able to reproduce.
