1979 gmc high sierra fuel issue

What's up? So I have a 79 heavy half sierra. Day before yesterday I ran out of gas. So I put gas in it and now it runs for a few seconds then dies. I have no clue what the issue may be. Any suggestions? This is my first older truck and I am not that good and troubleshooting. Suggestions would be appreciated

i'd start with a new fuel filter, running it out of gas may have sucked up some crap and plugged it. good luck with it.

Re: 1979 gmc high sierra fuel issue

Check the fuel lines, especially close to the tank...if a line has a kink in it, that's exactly what will happen. I got a new gas tank installed on my 79 GMC, and the gas line got kinked when the tank was raised....i would pump and start, and she'd run for a few seconds and then die.

Re: 1979 gmc high sierra fuel issue

I changed out the fuel filters. Check the pump, which come to find out is an aftermarket electric pump. It pumps fine. Went under and blew through the lines and I think I found the issue. I think its the part where the two tanks meet. Not sure what it's called tho. I think that piece failed. Thanks for the information.
