What did you do for fuel?
My motor is a 2001 5.3-liter LM7.
Hopefully someone can help me out and save me a few hours from Google I guess I have the returned style fuel system with the regulator built in the lines on the manifold. 1) Does anyone have a parts list for their swap? 2) I suppose I will need a fuel pump (I want to use an in tank pump) and high pressure lines. Does anybody have part numbers? 3) What fitting did you use and where did you use them? |

I would pm a guy named Clinebarger, he has an 85 suburban with the 5.3/4l60. I think they use the 87 truck tanks and pumps but he can set you straight.

Not sure on your pickup but i ran all 6an fuel hose. Its.more money but i wanted it to be a one time ordeal. You could use tubing and save some money you can order 20 feet or however long you need from jegs or summit. Just make sure u flare the tubing 37 degrees if running 6an fittings to it.

Do you remember what exactly you ordered Clyde and fixer? I went on summit and saw a kit with 20 foot of hose, but will that be enough?

I have the tank from Boyd Welding, it is in the rear, 20ft will just bearly be enough, but it is. I used a Pierburg external pump which is more & but a very good pump. ( http://www.turnkeyenginesupply.com/f...e-1-to-450-hp/). you can go less expensive for sure, a Walbro 255 pump along with the proper pre and post pump filter can get the job done.

I actually just purchased the walboro 255 and I also have a tank from Boyd's Welding in the rear of my truck...so I guess I'll look into picking up 20' of steel braided hose.

I used my stock suburban tank and bought a walbro 255 which for me it was like.... 2 wires i had to hook up then.... regular SS hose from summit but make sure NOT to get the PTFE unless your using PTFE specific hardware and a corvette regulator
Here is my parts #s although they may be slightly different since im using a returnless setup and also used my old hard lines Fuel rail fitting - rus-640850 SS braided hose - sum-230610 Hose end - sum-220690 Regulator fitting rus-640940 BR3W CITY helped me with my fuel line stuff

Okay, I have most of the fuel system figured then. I have a few more questions.
1) The return line is not pressurized, is it? Do I need to buy the high pressure lines for the return line or can just use hose clamps? 2) Can I use my stock 87 sending unit? If so, how do you hook up the lines to the unit? |

fuel injection rated hose and fi rated hose clamps will be fine. There is pressure on the return line, but it is usually not enough to cause in issue. Despite this, do NOT use regular fuel line and hose clamps, at least spend the few extra $$ for fi stuff.

What you could do.... this is what i did at least and some other people im pretty sure but i kept the hard lines basically from the old fuel filter back and i used one of the compression union pieces from summit to convert the hardline to the SS hose if i had a lot of time and money i would probably do it all in hardline except a short piece going up to the fuel rails

Just know that the fuel system on the LS is 58PSI, a whole lot more than our carbed systems are, so don't take any risks. I am going -8AN and -6AN on mine.

iirc the 87 sender still has the TBI style connections, just regular "push on" hose nipples for rubber line and clamp. I keep finding square body guys saying to use the 87-91 blazer sending unit, but with those nipples I don't know what they are doing for feed line.
I have 3 trains of thought on this, none of which are tested, so theres my disclaimer. 1. slip extra FI line over the nipple, and use 2 fuel injection clamps. Doesnt' sound the best but they DO hold very well, even at 60+psi, do at your own risk. 2. You could clip off the nipple and try to use the "hard line" AN fittings on the "stub" from the fuel pump. If the pipe OD is right, this might actually work just fine...never done it..do at your own risk. 3. Have someone braze or tig AN fittings or Pipe fittings to the sending unit, then adapt from there. The most work, most cost, and most professional. Still at your own risk.

Although a lot of people are against the double clamping idea but i know a 1st gen camaro that has that because when he did the swap in the early 2000s before ls swaps had any kind of aftermarket that was about the only option and its been fine since then so i would say its okay to use but if your paranoid i wouldn't suggest it lol
