Now, I'm getting serious!!!! LOL

So, I've been wanting to do this project and have officially started. I purchased an SWB 70 roller frame a while back with the intentions of doing a frame up build. It just so happens, I found a donor 69 for all of the metal, except the bed which I'll most likely purchase new. It will be a wood bed. My plan is to build an LS series drive train in a really good daily driver. Just purchased the 2" drop spindles, front disc brake and 3" rear drop, all of the new ball joints, bolts, etc to complete the frame. Any assistance would be helpful. Here's a few pics of the start!!!

Sounds like a great build. Best way imho to do a project. Get a great starting point in sheetmetal and build the frame up then swap over.

Re: Now, I'm getting serious!!!! LOL

I've been cleaning the 69 to see what all is going to be needed to do the project and I got to thinking, if I just drop a 350 in this truck, it's a driver and a very good one. I cleaned out the bed and it's in awesome shape. The interior is almost like new and I cleaned some of the oxidation off the exterior, which looks great as well. From the tranny back is all attached and the exhaust manifolds are sitting there waiting for an engine. I have the original heads, intake and other parts, just no short block. So this truck just might get a 350 dropped in and make it a daily driver. I put my 72 SWB,402BBC for sale today on craigslist and if I sell it, I'll need another good driver until the other SWB is complete, which will give me time to look for another donor.

What do you guys think?

Heck yeah, drop a 350 in it and cruise away! If injection is wanted, you could do a TBI setup or even a complete TBI 350 for a reasonable amount.

Re: Now, I'm getting serious!!!! LOL

I know that shop and it is awsome!! I bet it was you that took me there to look at a GMC longbed for sale, you also offered to sell me a shortbed frame. Was it you? I just got my truck driveable and think I would have been better off just buying a frame and getting that ready before buying a truck to switch things over. It would have been easier, cheaper and a better finished product in the end. That is due to my limited space, if your able to use that shop and blow it all apart it would be the same whole truck or not.

I saw the blue truck in your avatar on craigslist today, you are serious! I recommend staying with the LS swap. That's what I put in mine and it was very easy, I'm even close enough I could show you what I did and what I would do different to make it easier. You can almost always find an engine, tranny, harness, pcm combo on craigslist for around $1500 and you couldn't rebuild that 350 for that price. Overdrive is mandatory in my opinion anyway.

I'd like to meet up again and discuss this more. I've got so many things going on. I've also been looking at moving to about five acres and having a shop built like the one you see, it's not my shop however the owner and I have become good friends and it treats me really good and does what he says!!!!!

The LWB is heading to the scrape yard, however I'm selling the 72 SWB BBC truck that I've been driving lately.

Anyway let's touch base. 303-328-5216

Yeah it has gotten serious like that. I think if you manage to correct the metal hinges it would be better but if you don't then it is a no. Should consult for professional help.

Almost forgot, just ordered new aftermarket trailing arms as well. I think they're a vendor on this forum.

BTW, who edited my signature and why?

Re: Now, I'm getting serious!!!! LOL

The frame is almost complete. Got the upgraded trailing arms from Early Classic's and the back half will be done soon. I've got to start thinking about color? This is a fairly budget build, so I'll probably paint it the color of the interior cab and call it a day. Just got the brand new bed, which will need repainting.

Did 2" drop spindles, 3" rear and replace everything to new in the suspension. Going today to get some new rubber for the wheels I had power coated a while back

Re: Now, I'm getting serious!!!! LOL

It's now a roller, ordering the trans cross member, rear mount tank and will be purchasing the LS series drive train soon.

On another note, sold the bed out of the longbox so it looks like the rest of the cab will be going into this build. Had I been able to sell my green 72, I would have just dropped an engine in the 69, however I didn't really need three trucks...LOL. been talking off parts from the 69 and getting them refreshed, added pictures.

Re: Now, I'm getting serious!!!! LOL

Just cleaned and buffed out the grille on Project "Quickie" Next week the rear mount fuel tank will be here as well as the trans cross member. We'll remove the cab and start the body work for paint. I've decided to do an LS crate motor and will be ordering it up soon. Still haven't decided whether I go the 5.3L or 6.2L
Stay tuned!!!!

Re: Now, I'm getting serious!!!! LOL

Also, sold the truck in my avatar a couple of days ago. That money will be used to get the LS power plant. If we can stay on course project"Quickie" will be done by Thanksgiving. I just trying to decide whether I stay with the interior color(maroon) and paint the exterior that color or make a complete color change. Decisions,decisions...

Just stripped the cab to get ready for paint, the bed is almost complete and the LS drive train will be on order soon. Project "Quickie" is coming along nicely. The hardest decision, what color to paint it.....

Oh, here's my other project happening in Florida. I've had this car since 2007 waiting to build it. I'm giving it to my wife as a play toy.
