66 wiring issues
hope i'm not bringing up an old thread but i am stumped with my 66 chevy truck. when i got it the wiring harness was all hacked up. the harness to the starter solenoid was melted by the headers someone put on it so i trashed that harness and installed a new one. next i found a blue wire running from the positive battery cable going across the grill to the (incorrect internal regulator) alternator. I removed it and replaced it with a red wire running to the horn relay as the wiring diagram shows. there is currently no alternator in the truck. now when i hook up the battery i have headlights/tailights/dash lights but no horn, wipers, turn signals. when i turn the key on the gauges do nothing. is this because the alternator is out of the truck or should i be looking elsewhere. the horn and wipers and signals all worked before...

Re: 66 wiring issues
alternator doesnt matter yet, look at your fuses first. now look at your starter, what wires are there?
Alternator should just go from the alt to the starter. BTW, you going to the cruise for the cure this saturday? ( in Downtown FT Worth)?

Re: 66 wiring issues
get a test light/volt meter, the purple should go to the ign switch. see if anything is on that wire, should be 12volt

Re: 66 wiring issues
hey that's a start i'll try that. won't be in fort worth
cause my trucks not up and running yet. bought it last year it ran great but found coolant leaking from above the passenger side motor mount bracket. thought i had a cracked block on my hands but it had rusty freeze plugs instead. i pulled the engine cause they were so hard to get to and had them all replaced with brass. i'm just now getting her all put back together. |
