CPP Power steering bracket question

I got a CPP6066PSK power steering bracket kit and I don't know if this looks right. I haven't drilled anything yet but the instructions online say to bolt top left and bottom right bolts first for drilling. This kit is supposed to be for 60-66 and I have a 61. I included a picture of the outer bracket. Is it supposed to protrude above and below the frame like mine is?

Why not return what you've got--or sell it on Craigslist--and buy CaptainFab's kit(He is a member of our forum.). His kit is made from HIS experience, is a quality unit, and even has templates included with his own "hands-on" instructions; and he is available on our forum for advice on any questions you may have.

Sorry about not able to answer your ????, but when those of us who cannot install/adapt via our own fabrication skills, I think it best to go with the Captain's 'tried-and-true', personal-experienced kits. Even feeling I have enough skills to adapt my own--and I've done several on these 60-66 trucks with NO bought adapters and NO knowledge of anyone's adapters--I still recently bought one of his kits, merely to compare to what I've been doing. If I were to do all my conversions again, starting from no experience, I'd have saved hours of time and countless re-do's if I had used his kits from the get-go--would've eliminated so many trial-and-errors; so many mis-placed holes that had to be welded-up; so much heating/forming/grinding/polishing of re-worked frame snouts. Did I say his kits eliminate wasted effort, time, money?

He even can tell you which steering boxes to buy, which ones to avoid, which pumps(some pumps take different hose ends) work with which boxes(some boxes take different hose-ends). He can explain[easily] what to do and why do it when you finish the conversion and suddenly you have a dangerous truck that steers adequately when making left turns but dangerously-short when making a right turn. Also, advice re: would you prefer extra-easy wheel-turning or a quicker,sporty-feel? Buy correctly with 1st purchase & learn how to determine correct one for your preference.

Why re-learn and re-write his encyclopedia of info that is already "published"? And, NO, I do not refer for commissions--but just for helping fellow truck-lovers.
HTH,
Sam

Re: CPP Power steering bracket question

Sam, what a spokesman for Capt Fab you are! Unfortunately Capt fab does not yet make 60-62 brackets. I asked him personally. Nor did he have any 63-66 brackets available for purchase at the time when I tried to buy one from him. Great points though brother, he does make some nice stuff. I have seen it, which is why I went to him first.

Re: CPP Power steering bracket question

Thanks for the sales pitch Sam

Branman take a look at this thread, it may help a little. It looks like you have the plate positioned correctly.

Re: CPP Power steering bracket question

Thanks Captainfab. I looked all evening for a thread like that one. I'm not sure but I think I might have a problem with my pitman arm too. Didn't look like it was gonna work but I didn't get everything situated. Thanks again. Moving on!

Re: CPP Power steering bracket question

I will check when I get home. It's not a c-channel frame. It's square tubed.

Re: CPP Power steering bracket question

yes my frame is c-channel on my 4x4 and yours is boxed type. is the curve the same as the later c-frame? I would try and mount it so your pitman arm lines up correctly.

Re: CPP Power steering bracket question

Looks good, just did one on my 62. The two holes that protrude above and below the frame should be threaded. You will drill out the same two holes on the gear box and install the bolts from the opposite side.

Re: CPP Power steering bracket question

I've been a beta tester on a couple projects for Captain.
I put together his template for his power steering bracket.
I now have my 65 back that I put on a 62 frame. I want to help him get one for the 60-62's made.

Hey 61K10, my frame measures about 2 3/8". Curious why you ask?
