"Newer" OEM wheels?

I talked about this earlier, but I wanted to get an idea of how many people are running stock wheels from a newer year?

My brother-in-laws '55 came with late 80's style Silverado wheels. I have been looking at Escalade wheels, but I have also seen quite a few Denali wheels for sale as well (much cheaper than 17" after market setups).

I know I need to run spacers and all that, but I still like the idea of running a factory wheel. Sort of like the Nissan 350z guys running the q35 wheels. Very good looking wheel while still staying in the family.

I really like the looks of the early 90's??? "slotted" wheels they put on some GM trucks and on the SS 454 trucks. There's a few trucks on here with them, but I haven't saved any pics.

Wasn't the wheels on the 454SS steel? I worked on an SS project as my last big stereo in '89. That was a bad ass truck!

I just said "slotted" because I don't know how else to describe them But yeah, if the wheels on that project truck were the stockers, that's what I'm talking about, and yes, I believe they were steel.

67chevyredneck --with exception of the white front turn signals --- your truck appears a twin to mine--- are your round mirrors stainless? and yes you can use later aluminum wheels with about 2-2.5 inches of spacer in some manner.

I don't know, maybe? They came from The Truck Shop. There's lots of pics in the "build thread" in my signature.

I don't think the NBS (99+) rims look "right" on these trucks (unless you have the 8 lug rims.)

Yes the SS wheels (chrome slots) are steel. They are getting harder to find, at least nice unpitted factory ones. Oh, BTW they are only 7" wide.

The '99-ish Escalade wheels are 17x7.5. I'm still torn between running those or not. I am tempted because they come up on Craigs List all the time for $100 for the set. The junk yard sells them for $400 and I have seen them go on ebay for $300 or more.

I guess if I don't run them, I could sell and be happy. It goes with the idea of converting my truck to an Escalade SWT (sweet white trash).

Well, I bought some off ebay for $98 for the set + $60 shipping. I didn't mean to, but I guess I set a snipe bid for $110 and never deleted it. Oh well, I got a set of 4 with the correct center caps as well.

I'm still not sure if my ralley wheels fit over the disc brakes (read somewhere that not all the stock wheels work). So now I have a backup set of wheels, I would just need some tires and be good to go.

I recently almost bought a set of those off craigslist but got talked out of it. Are they 17's? the wheels I was looking at came off a 2005 Silverado 2wd.

We are using the same exact wheels on a 68 K20 project here. What lug nuts did you use to install the center caps?

on my new 69 shortbox i have a set of truck rallies from the 70's and 80's, but once i get the truck finished and buy new tires for it im going with the factory chevy rim off of a 2001 chevy 1500

tdave00- these are 16" and are off a 3/4 ton silverado, can't remember the exact year but chevy has been using them since about 2000 or so.

musclerodz- I got the lug nuts here- http://www.wheelcomponents.com/lugnuts.html 3rd row down, part #2004. I have been told that most tire stores can get them for you too. The hardest part was cutting the center out of the front caps to fit over the hubs. These caps have a thin layer of metal over the plastic, almost like stainless. Hard as nails to get thru. I had a brand new 4 1/2" hole saw and by the time I was done it pretty much was too.

i acctually was just looking at a smashed up 99ish esclade down the street from my house and was think those rims are kinda cool but whats the bolt patern on them

They should, with spacers as previously mentioned. One other thing I'd like to mention about spacers...as long as they're good ones made from 6061 aluminum or similar, that bolt on to the hub with your original studs and have new studs pressed into them, there shouldn't be any concerns with load capacity. Ford duallies have used spacers in the front since the '90's, and you don't see any load restrictions on them. If you like the wheels, order up some spacers and run 'em.

Another alternative to the Chevy 3/4 ton wheels are Hummer H2 wheels.
The diesel guys put them on their trucks and use the Chevy center caps.
Probably would look pretty good on these trucks too.

Just be careful your offset on the old stock truck rally wheels does not cause trouble with your front unit bearings.

I have seen aftermarket wheels with less offset than those ruin unit bearings in about 30 thousand miles. Check yours for wobble to make sure you are not developing a problem.
