Power Steering Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am puting new PS lines and hoses on my truck. Is this as simple as taking the old ones off, putting on new, and add fluid? Or will I have to do some bleeding or something else. I've never done this before, so i am a little curious. Thanks

You pretty much nailed it. Just remove and replace. How I do it is I remove the hoses off the box then turn the pully by hand to flush the old fluid out, make sure to have a bottle or tub to catch the old fluid. Then remove the lines off the back. Be sure to have a 1" wrench to hold the large nut on the back of the steeing pump where the pressure hose comes out. It likes to come loose when you undo the pressure line. Then reatach the new lines, use tephlon tape on the ends. Refill the pump with fluid and turn by hand for about a minute with cap off. Then put cap on and reinstall belt. You should be good. I just did this last week.

prob. have to do some bleeding, but (having never done this myself, YET) would think you would want to add fluid slowly and give the air bubbles a chance to rise to the pump. should minimize the bleeding required.
