Paint Job Step to Step

Allright, so from what i understand....I must strip all chrome and/or any relating pieces on any panel of the truck for a paint job. When i do so, i want to strip off the old paint down to the metal...What is the best way to do this, and once the fresh metal is oxodized it starts to rust, so what chemical do i use to etch it, or keep it from rusting without effecting the primer thats about to be sprayed....Next, what type of paint is prefferable to yall, meaning most popular, or highest quality paint used to give it the stock look. Next, How many coats of primer, how many coats of paint, and how many of the clear and what type/brand of clear/primer should i use? What color primer do yall use? Any things i should look out for in this process?? THANK YOU for putting up with all the questions, i want to do this once and only once

You are right in removing all the chrome trim and other pieces when using the
the base coat-clear coat paint system. Taping up these things instead of
removing them will just give the leading edge of the clear a starting place
to lift after a few years. Why do you want to remove all the paint on the
truck now to the metal? Buildup of several layers of paint?..paint chipped
to the metal in most places? You can use 60 grit paper to remove the paint
or a chemical stripper [ messy] to remove the old paint. You should use a
etching primer on bare metal. Whatever paint system you use such as ..
Dupont, ppg or other paint system, use their etching primer, buildup primer
etc. Hope I answered some of your questions.

if your painting your full truck you should check into water baces paints.....very easy to spray on and auto air colors uses the same pigments as house of Kolor...........i know this cause i used it at my school and i have talked with the owner of auto air colors and that paint look awesome

Can someone correct me if I am wrong but I was thinking I heard that the auto air colors are harder to spray right then the typical base coats.

revn67 your advice is contridictory, you recommend auto air colors but you also recommend staying with the same product line. Are you saying that you don't need a clear with the autoair? Autoair doesn't sell a clear I thought or have they started recently?
