can this be done

here is a quote that jerry moss sent me and i want to know if this can be done?

"if you can find a vacuum tin without a tach, you can have tha tach hole punched. i sent a few of mine out a few years back when i put together some tach/vacuum/speedwarning clusters. i don't remember which company did the work but one thing i do remember, it took a couple of months to get the tins back. i punched one of my own many years ago but it took a few tries to get it right, back then i had so many clusters laying around i could afford to screw up a few. i'm sure someone on the board could tell you which company punches the tach hole, it's one of the large truck vendors.
getting old really sucks--first thing to go is the mind and i can't remember what goes next. lol."

Re: can this be done

Based on Jerry Moss's reputation, if he said it can be done then I would certainly believe him.

Looking at the tins, it sure seems possible for someone with the experience in sheet metal but I have never attempted it.

I believe the back tins play a part in the backlight.I guess you do a custom look. But,I`ve always been told you need the tins.At least to look factory.

Re: can this be done

I was dealing with someone in cali. (Maybe at brothers) awhile back about having this done. He said it would be no problem as the had all the dies and punches made. At that time i think it was 8 or 9 bucks a punch and they had to be punched 3 times to be correct. I never followed through with it and this was a couple of years ago. So yes, it can be done.
