Re: 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton.
if you have coil, then a 71/72 1/2 ton 12 bolt will swap right in.
If you have leaf springs, then you need to locate a rear with the same spring pad width, or start cutting and welding |

IIRC, coil was standard and leaf was the option on Chevys and the opposite was standard on GMC, with coils being the option. Once you hit the 73-87 generation, the coils are gone, leaf on everything.

Re: 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton.
i converted my 72 burb from 3/4 to 1/2 ton, all I did was get a 72 1/2 ton rear end to make it 5 lug then for the front rotors i went with the early classic (ECE) c20 to c10 dropped conversion spindle its made to take all the c20 ball joints etc. but allowing you to use a 5 lug rotors in front.

Re: 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton.
Never have been a fan of the 3/4 ton rear axle....you have to remove both axles to do the brakes unless you have swapped over to discs. When you don't have the tools and know how, that can get expensive!!

Re: 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton.
I had a Dana 60 in my '72 -20, don't have to pull the axles on that.

Re: 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton.
I want to do it with my 72, I was thinking of just buying 3/4t springs though. But I'd rather have all of the parts.

Re: 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton.
Not to be a smartass, but I'm just wondering why you want to get rid of your 3/4 ton equipment? Is it so you can run 5 lug rims??

Re: 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton.
haha no, i wanna make it a 1/2 ton and 5 lug. 5 lug has a better range of wheels, and 1/2 has a better variety of lowering parts... in my opinion.
