Saddle tank as main tank
Hey guys... First post so be nice!
Here's my question. I have a 72 1/2 ton. It came with 2 saddle tanks as well as the behind the seat stinker tank... I removed passenger side tank and removed the under the seat switch. I joined the driver side saddle tank hose directly to the hose going to fuel pump. Truck runs fine and doesn't seem to leak or have any issues. My concern is the saddle tank has no vent lines that I can see. I assume the gas cap must be a venting type? Is this a safe set up besides the accidental side impact blowing me up? Want to pull the behind the seat tank ASAP but don't want to screw myself if you guys see potential problems? |

Yep, works fine. It should be using a vented cap, so no vent on the tank needed. I did my old '68 (not the current one listed) this way and ran on the driver saddle tank. Removed the inside one and filled the hole in the cab.

did that on mine , removed the interior tank that is , made room for an amp and sub , and no fumes

...well, if everything is in good shape you shouldn't have any fumes in the cab.
That said.....I love the smell of a few gas fumes....important part of the ride for me! Coley

The only problem I can think of is that single saddle tank probably isn't very big. My twin saddles hold about 15 gallons each.

Well Im losing a gallon Stocker..... Behind the Seat was I think a 15 and my saddle is a 14..... She dont get driven to much for that to matter...

Personally, if it were me, I'd rather have the in cab tank rather than the saddle tank. Reason for that is because the in cab tank has a small surface area to be hit in a side collision, whereas the saddle tank the whole thing is basically right there. Not to mention the in cab tank would be sitting up a little higher.
Obviously, the best way to do this would be like the newer trucks that have a tank inside the frame rails. But newer trucks have wider frames, so on our trucks it's pretty much impossible. Although I have heard people fitting older F#rd Ranger tanks in our frames. Just my 2c.
