New project, looking for some info!

Hey guys, I'm the proud new owner of a 1979 Chevrolet K5 Blazer Cheyenne. It hasn't been tagged since 2003, hasn't moved since 05, and hasn't ran since 2007, up until I made it fire before I put my deposit down. It's a 350/350th/NP203/10 Bolt/12 Bolt. Gorgeous truck! Only rust besides the undercarriage is the front of the hood and a little spot on the driver door where the paint chipped. No body damage, even the bumpers are straight, will has the body line trim! I scored a great deal on her too.

The engine will need a rebuild, so I'm seeking info on Chevy K series 350 truck engines. It has a cat and an egr, but no smog pump or air injection . I want to know what's factory and then I can go from there on upgrades. I didn't look the carb over but I'm guessing it's a quadrajet? I have built 350's and 454's in the past, I just want to use the right parts from the getgo for this engine. Anything any of you have to share would be a big help! Oh, and in case you guys were curious, she's bone stock, and once she's running driving and registered again, she's going to be getting some DIY4X goodies

I'll post back with some pictures later tonight.

Anyways, as I said, anything you have to offer would be much appreciated guys! Thank you!

I know less than nothing about CA stock engines, sorry. Someone will show up that knows. Post up some pics!

Sounds like a survivor so interested in seeing some pics. What exactly is your question regarding the engine? What emission equipment it came with?

Re: New project, looking for some info!

That last one is tearing down to change out the ignition cylinder for the new one I bought, which was a success.

I'm looking for some info on the engine specifically. If anyone has any experiences with 79 K5's with 350's I'd love to hear about it. Between casting numbers, part numbers, overhaul kits, upgrades, etc. I want to build the engine right.

The K5 has the standard emissions RPO code. No smog pump or air injection, just an EGR and a cat. This truck is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I had him talked down low and after seeing it I made a solid reasonable offer. Still got it for a steal in my opinion. Those tires don't even have dry rot, and they haven't moved in 7 years (according to him its been in the same spot since 2007, and judging by the ground erosion around the tires and the rat droppings under the hood I'm inclined to believe him.).

Looks really good! The only thing I can think of, is you'll have to pass Cali Smog test right? You'll have to do some checking with California people about that stuff. I lived in LA for two years, and loved/hated it. Car smog crap was one thing I did hate. Junkyards, I LOVED!!!!

Re: New project, looking for some info!

Thanks! It's a definite score. I'm shocked it looks so good even after sitting out in the open desert so long without moving!

California smog does suck, so much so that I usually use my guy. My duramax needed to be smogged this year but I chose to go the legal route for once haha.

This K5 has a cat and PCV/EGR, charcoal canister, but not AIR injection or smog pump. The build date is 01/1979. I know up until 78 some K5's didn't have smog pumps or air injection but all I see about 79 shows they did, but this Blazer is clearly not a modified truck, so I'm trying to figure out what the deal is. I'm going to call a smog ref on my lunch break. Not that it matters, I would just rather it pass legally lol.

Re: New project, looking for some info!

welcome,it looks solid!and AC too
78 had no charcoal,79 yes
79 has the fat lip edge on the hood.and lower chrome grill
I think 79 went to include a 1/4 return gas line,my 78 dosn't have it
78 three speed fan,79 four
78 glass tube fuses finished, blades were in for 79
your wiper switch looks like a delay, see if the dial turns
and you got the vented windows too, cool
i'd replace the tires, sound to old to be safe on the road
can't tell how your carpet is,I took mine out and pressure-washed it
