How did this happen to window gasket?

I installed my rear window and it looked great.... for several weeks. Then this happened. It appears to have puckered and pulled away from the glass on top. Any ideas? I have bought a new gasket and lock strip but would like to understand what happened so it doesn't happen again. Couldn't get the image to be correct but the pucker is on the bottom flat.

Won't know why until it's out, but it is probably split. Is the stainless trim new, as well as the gasket?

Not sure what causes the issue.

I rotated the image to get a better view for for those that might be able to answer.

Thank you. Looking at the new lock strip I notice a piece of trim I didn't get before. I can't find any info on how it goes in but might look better than just butting the trim together.

Does it go in last after the lock strip is installed?

Re: How did this happen?

As a couple of the others mentioned earlier, it might be that the seal cut/tore while putting in the lock strip (for the rear window, I hope the lock strip wasn't steel). My friend's rear seal did that a few years back and when we removed the glass and seal, it was indeed split inside at that area and started to pull away.

When installing the lock strip, be sure to spray generous amounts of the lubricant solution of your preference (I used an old spray bottle with a water dishsoap solution) as you install the lock strip, and don't be too aggressive with the lock strip tool as you insert the strip. I have not seen a rear window lock strip with that center trim piece.

I have never seen a center trim piece on our trucks either for the rear window. Lock strip is the chromed plastic type. Next week I plan to take out the rear window and reinstall.

Re: How did this happen?

Pulled out the lock strip and can see what happened. There is a tare in the weatherstrip. Factory flaw or possibly did it with the lock strip tool. Ready to reinstall with new weatherstrip.
