Lifting a 63 4x4 pickup

I noticed that several of the 4x4 early 60's trucks seem lifted to accomidate 35 inch tires. Do you lift them and do you just reverse the shackle down instead of up or what? thanks, Larry

Re: Lifting a 63 4x4 pickup

Here's my '66. When I bought it the PO had 3/4" blocks in the front, which is a no no in my book, and 3/4" blocks stacked on top of the factory rears. Here it is as I bought it with 35s and the blocks.

I don't believe there are any lift springs available for the older models, so I had a local spring shop do up some custom fronts with a modest 1.5" lift and I clear 37s. I haven't adressed the rear yet. I'm waiting untill I do a Dana 60 or 14 bolt swap. The rear axle has been moved back about an inch so the tires are more centered in the wheel wells. They do rub the inside when I get her real crossed up, but the wider rear I'll go with should help that, plus I'll be able to chose an 8 lug wheel with a correct offset.

Re: Lifting a 63 4x4 pickup

Thanks for the info and the pic's, mine have sagged a little, I might just add a coupla of leaves from something else. I hate to change the axle geometry too much. Thanks again, Larry

Yeah, I think 35s will fit them without a lift. As far as suburbans go, the front has plenty of room and the rears will clear as long as the wheel doesn't have too much negative offset or is too wide.
